ESPN Mag- Paul vs. Williams

This article is pretty good and lays out the real dilimma between choosing these point guards.  No surprises in the article.  When forced to choose, not one group of insiders or one group of fans chose Williams over Paul, but reading the comments about the article, there are a lot of fans (and not all Jazz fans) that prefer Williams by a long shot.

You have probably already heard the one quote from Bill Simmons that is one-sided all the way.  "Then Chris Paul fell out of the sky. He's a classier Isiah with a better jumper. We are blessed. Comparing him with Deron Williams is like comparing Pearl Jam to Stone Temple Pilots. Don't waste your time."

I am one of the biggest Bill Simmons fans around.  I think he is hilarious and you have to admit that he knows the game pretty well.  His biggest shortcoming is that he lets his judgment get clouded by his favorite teams and players.  But don't we all.  I know he said not to waste our time on the comparisons, but I actually think the Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots thing brings up an interesting point.  At face value Pearl Jam does seem a lot better than STP.  Pearl Jam's first album Ten is the best Pearl Jam album.  It is one of the great albums of the 90's.  But they have never matched it.  The rest of their stuff has had great moments, but their latest music just doesn't quite cut it.  STP's freshman album Core had some good songs, but didn't hold a candle to Ten, but as a fan of both bands, I have to say that STP's sophmore and third albums (12 Gracious Melodies and Tiny Music from the Vatican) equal Pearl Jam's vs and tops Vitalogy. I didn't mean to be a music critic on this post, but I think it is funny that Simmons tried to win his argument by comparing Pearl Jam and STP, because while Pearl Jam was quick out of the gate, the Pilots have had the latest good songs.  It's Longevity or the last Laugh vs. the quick start.  Pearl Jam's best might be better than STP's best, but over a career, Deron Williams may keep going up and getting better (minus the trips to rehab), while Paul will struggle to match the season that almost landed him the MVP.
