Jazz at Knicks- The Good, the Bad and the Garden - Game Thread

[Note by Basketball John,  I'm turning this excellent post into the game thread.  I was in the process of typing up something myself, but clarkpojo summed things up nicely.  I'm not optimistic about this game because as stated below, we struggle against NY for whatever reason.  Sunday afternoon game haven't usually been good to the Jazz either.

Make sure to check out  Posting and Toasting]

Well, today is a big day for the Utah Jazz.  They have a lot to prove.  I'm not talking about showing an improvement on the road, I am talking about proving that they are stronger and tougher from offseason medical science workouts.  But seriously, this is where the Jazz get to put their money where their mouths are and show that they have what it takes to be elite.  And what better place to plant the seeds of a special season than in New York's largest garden?

The Good:  We are playing the Knicks, a team who has amassed less than 26 total wins per season over the last 5 years and who wins only 16 home games a year over that time.  They are worse than dysfunctional.  They are bad, approaching nearly incompetent before they changed guards..

The Bad:  We haven't beat them in New York in the last 4 seasons, meaning we account for almost 10% of their home wins the last 4 years.

The Good:  We have just barely lost to them in recent years, two games by one point, and another one by only 4 points last year.  And the guy who has killed the Jazz in recent games (rhymes with Starbury), will be trying to find high school teams to practice with instead of playing.

The Bad:  The Jazz have shown a propensity for letting lots of Knick players have way too good of games when we have played them.  And with streaky players like Nate Robinson, Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph, and even Quentin Richardson, their are a lot of Knicks that could get hot and bury the Jazz if we don't defend well.

The Good:  The Jazz have had better defense during this early season and have played good lock down d at times, especially to close out games.

The Bad:  We aren't in Utah anymore.

And that is really what sums up this whole piece.  What will the Jazz do in a hostile environment away from home? I have decided that I can't pick against this Jazz team until they show me otherwise and lose.  So here's to the interior defense being tough, not great yet, but tough, Knight continuing his steady play and assisting a bucket every minute and a half, and to AK and Millsap absolutely terrorizing second units throughout the league.  And we need to personally ensure that New York gets in the lottery for the next two seasons.

Jazz 99   Knicks 91

Price hits his first couple shots

But he should not be taking those threes. He’s getting caught up in the game.

So

There were a couple of really sloppy/ugly moves by Ronnie P in the first quarter that made me wish that Deron was playing.

Also, Boler totally said KK when he meant to say AK. Funny.

HELLO?

Is everyone at church? WHY?

This is some of the ugliest basketball I’ve ever seen. Why is no one watching?

by DaniellelovesKK on Nov 9, 2008 1:53 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

I was at church.

But I am with you now. I was honestly expecting us to be down about 10 at half with the score in the 30’s, cuz we struggle to score in NY, but this looks promising.

The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.

Boozer has missed like 5 layups this year.

It’s weird

That Boozer call was weak.

That is a no call.

That foul on Crawford.

Was such a flop.

And on one is cutting to the basket now.

And I am live threading with myself.

God

WTF?
It’s the Knicks guys. Wake the hell up!

by UtesFan89 on Nov 9, 2008 2:48 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

If the Jazz lose this game.

They have no one to blame but themselves. They took outside shot after outside shot in that quarter and only scored 15 points. And got outscored by 12. Worst quarter of the season.

The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.

This is ridiculous

I am nervous, but like it’s for real this time.

And we can't stop Robinson

Three pointers and FTs

Are the reason the Knicks are ahead. The Jazz are shooting 52% to the Knicks 36%. Unacceptable.

If we are going to make a run, it is going to come now.

why is knight shooting jumpers?

that can’t be the best offensive option

FSN

Has their onscreen score all messed up. They’re giving the Knicks points on Jazz scores and vice versa.

Defense is the key?

On a D’Antoni team?

Here's my theory.

The refs “HAD” to make sure the Jazz lost, so that the Fakers could be the only team in the West with a perfect record still. I hate Stern and his cronies.

I'm not too bummed.

The season’s going really well especially when you remember that D-Will has been out.

box score was wrong. 28-19. But still.

So,

The bad part about having an almost all Jazz Fantasy team: when they lose, half my team loses too.

by DaniellelovesKK on Nov 9, 2008 3:24 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

yeah

sorry about that, D. You were really doing well until today’s loss. Now I think I’ve got you at least 6 to 3.

"SHOCK THE WORLD!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!"

Fuck.

What is up with this team?
Without Deron, we’re going 0-5 on this trip if this comes up.

Hack away. Don’t play defense inside or out. Settle for jumpers whenever possible. Make the Knicks look like Championship contenders. Ugh.

Deron: shoot some novicane and suit up.

I just got home. What a crappy score against a silly team.

Pants Off, Game On!

too many js...not enough drives

Jazz got made a fool of in NY…they showed they dont have that closer like DWill can be in tough games on the road, Ronnie B could do it but he is so busy on defensive assignments while Korver just comes in and fouls, as does CJ, Price is looking dreary on occasion too, but he has his moments of spark usually under pressure, but he takes the shot with not enough time expired also….Brevin has played relatively well and has shown he can nail the jumper when necessary but tonight he was taking too many jumpshots when he could have found a better shot for someone else, he did it like three times in a row and missed all of them

All I really got to say is…DWill where are you?? We really need you, I understand it must suck to see this happen in New York for DW…this is what you call a catch 22 at this point….we have to showthhat we can win on the road this year and this is not a good start. Brevin and Price need to realize who they are substituting for and everyone needs to be aggressive and dunk on these beezies…..no more layups.

whoa has anyone seen the Boston vs Detroit score??? 47 Boston, 29 Detroit…..in Detroit wit AI…

correction

Boozer can be a closer when he does not have 4 fouls
