SLAM Magazine with Deron cover
This one is for Moni's FanShot from a while back - you ask and you shall receive. I searched high and low for this issue (4 Wal-Marts, 2 Targets, and 3 airports over Thxgiving weekend) - it has been hard to find!
Here's the scanned feature article about D-will by Ryne Nelson of SLAM (Ish 124). Found it on a newsstand in the Houston airport (let me know if you guys can't read the text - UPDATE: tried using Tinypic.com and switching from a PNG to JPEG, so hopefully that helps). CP3 ENVY ALERT: They always find a way to one-up Deron...CP3 comes first in the issue, and his article prologue begins with, "Forget the NBA: Chris Paul is the best point guard in the world today. There's no qualifier in there, because it's the truth..." The D-will article begins with some crappy prologue about a "Deron Williams Fan Club". *sigh* I know it's a slight jab, but c'mon!

oops i trigger clicked
any way you can upload to imageshack or similar site? sbnation shrinks the images so it’s a little hard to read the text.
thanks!
I can't read it either. It is just a little too blurried. I have been searching high and low for this magazine too.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
Maybe we'll run it on SLAMonline sometime...
We often don’t run features from the magazine online, but it’s definitely a beneficial change I’m pushing for!
Not a slight jab at all.
Deron and I both attended Illinois at the same time—I’m a huge fan. I used a creative/imaginary intro to make the piece stand-out and mean something more to the reader. Of course, people know he’s great, and his leadership will prove he’s the best point in the League. I hope the ‘prologue’ reinforces that. Of course, you’re more than entitled to disagree.
Thanks for the great article
You just have to realize that we as Jazz fans are always sensitive when it comes to Deron/Chris comparisons.

Completely understood.
Deron will undoubtedly get a solo cover at some point. Believe me, I feel the same sensitivity whenever the conversation comes up. Regardless of what’s said and done, I’d rather have Deron if I’m picking a point guard to win championships.
Lang Whitaker and I ran a back-and-forth debate on SLAMonline to accompany the issue’s unveiling. It’s long, I know, but I believe I do a nice job defending Deron. :-)

I linked to that here a while ago
I thought you brought up excellent points. I think most Jazz fans just want Williams to get the respect that Paul gets. Everyone seems to think that Paul is light years ahead of Williams when they’re pretty much even. Everyone seems to be in their own camps with the Paul camp not acknowledging that Deron is just as good. Whereas most everyone in the Williams camp will say that Paul is great too.
Keep up the good fight. Look for the 8 > 3 shirts I have coming out soon.

Here's the mock

I just have to get the 3 not so pixelated. Just trying to find the right font. Hoping to get it ready by this week.

Wow, the writer of the article found this?
Now I feel bad for calling the dialogue “crappy”, since I really did enjoy the article and was super excited about Deron being featured in SLAM (a magazine I have cherished since I was a kid). That’s why I searched everywhere for the magazine. Thanks for writing it, and thanks for giving our boy some love.
I admire CP3 and think he is all that and a bag of chips, but like Basketball John said (and apparently you well understand), Deron fans always feel like they are being slighted.
Pretty cool to read the prologue now that I’m aware the writer has his foot deep in the D-will camp (and is not just some paid SLAM writer forced to swallow his CP3 man-love and write an article about the “2nd best” PG in the league). It reads a lot differently now…
By the way, apologies for not citing you as the author of the article in the original post. I used to be a journalist, so I know how irksome that can be. I will edit that.

No apologies needed
…except mine, I guess. Looking back, I can totally see how the fan club idea could be taken as a slight. He’s the real deal (and so is that shirt!).
As for me finding this article…I’m just as much of the blogosphere as you all! As SLAM’s Online Ed., I check SLCD (but usually, unfortunately lurk) all the time!
Loved the chat...
I especially liked the Ben Handlogten reference. That’s a shoutout to the Jazz faithful!
