Boozer will have arthroscopic knee surgery
Just got this from KFAN,
1320 KFAN has learned that Carlos Boozer will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery that will likely take place on Jan 9.
Good gravy. Don't know what to think about this. The only thing coming to mind first is bye-bye Millsap. Boozer will most certainly pick up his option now for next year. Unless the Jazz can swing a deal for AK, Millsap can't stay salary-wise.
One other quick thought, do the Jazz pull any triggers on any trades? Would they still be able to deal Boozer to a team looking for cap relief?
This throws everything out of whack.
More thoughts coming later...

He may just be out a month.
It still has to affect his opt-out decision. Unless he has a monster return, I think he wants another year to prove himself.

WTF?
After all of that time waiting for him to return, he just now figures out that he needs surgery?
And I don’t necessarily think that this means Booze won’t opt out because, remember, he’s “going to get a raise regardless.”

Agree
I agree that this doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t opt out. After all, look at Elton Brand last year. He was out for all but a handful of games, yet he still opted out and got a nice contract with the Sixers. Even without a raise, he might opt out just to secure a longer contract and have that financial stability.

Freaking Booze
This is so inopportune. I was really warming up to him being gone. We’d keep Millsap and then free up some room for a free agent next year along the lines of a shot-blocker or a shooting guard.
Now we have to keep him and possibly lose Millsap, which just can’t happen!

Life without Millsap
is like mashed potatoes without gravy.
Grammar is not a time of waste

My reaction is "other"
seriously… we all knew this was coming. No way he’s sitting out this long if it’s something minor.
And Demosthenes nails it on the head… just look at Elton Brand.
Again… I just want this to go away.

As a Portland fan
I wish you guys were at full strength. It’s not fun to have a division race when one of the teams is so beat up.

Doesn't look like that's going to happen
at least not for a very long while.

Wrench in the works.....
I think that Boozer can kiss that raise good bye!
Which is actually sorta sad, cuz we had great window of opportunity to get rid of old softy.
I remember commenting to by better half when he got injured, there he goes for no less than a month, probably two. Then as it drug on,,,, oh well.
Today they say a month, BS, he will not see the hardwood till April. (personal bet, please if I’m wrong send me a dead crow). Oh and I do enjoy crow though it’s an acquired taste.

This is the email I just got from UtahJazz.com
SALT LAKE CITY (December 30, 2008) – The following is a medical update on Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer:
After having tried to conservatively rehabilitate his left knee, which has not responded satisfactorily, and reviewing all of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test results, Dr. Richard Ferkel and Jazz team orthopedist Dr. Lyle Mason have decided to perform an arthroscopic procedure on Boozer’s left knee joint. Because of a skin laceration, which has occurred during rehab very near the scope site and has yet to completely heal, the procedure will be postponed until January 9.
Boozer will continue with cardiovascular and weight training rehabilitation until January 9. A timeline on Boozer’s recovery will be provided following the outcome of the surgery.
A skin laceration??? Come on!

could the fact that boozer's surgery is being held up by a "skin laceration"
be any more predictable?

Does this really put a damper on Boozer's decision to opt out?
Every other team knows what he’s capable of. I doubt Miami would be concerned with throwing a contract his way given their total lack of depth (assuming the Boozer to Miami talk pans out).
Vinny Del Negro interviewed for the job today. I mean come on! Nobody else thinks this is nuts?

Bright Side
At least there’s no risk of him getting injured before the playoffs as there would be if he were playing. He ought to be good to go by April. Hopefully, the rest of the team will be peaking and still have room for his game.
So they’re going to give surgery, but has any report even said what’s wrong precisely? Are they just going in to clean it out, or is there something damaged that needs repair? It would have been nice for him to have had this surgery three weeks ago.
Buckle up!

Just some medical insight.
When they thought it was just a bruised patellar tendon, they believed that it would heal with rest alone, so that was the plan. Now when Boozer exercises or runs on his knee, it swells up every time. That kind of swelling could be normal for awhile, but now it just is indicative of a larger problem. Something else is wrong in his knee other than a bruise. Best case scenario: He has some floating pieces in his knee that just needs to be cleaned out and he is back 4 weeks after surgery. Worst case: there is enough damage that more surgery is needed and he is done for the year. Lots of Jazz fans seem to be of the opinion that this is Boozer’s doing. Either he should play through the pain or else he is getting a 3rd MRI so that he can find someone who will validate his decision to sit out. That’s ridiculous. Team doctor Lyle Mason also concurred that this surgery is necessary. And in hind sight, wasn’t it worth the 3 weeks he has sat to see if it would heal itself, before performing a surgery that would sit him for 4 weeks? I am not a Boozer fan, but I will defend him on this injury. The team is fully aware of his condition and swelling and Kevin O’ Connor has no problem with the surgery or his sitting out thus far. He isn’t just dogging it or pretending the knee is worse off than it is. It is disappointing but a player wouldn’t get away this long just for sitting out because they wanted to. His knee just isn’t healing like it should have by now.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.

I think
For our best interest, present & future (and past – but too late for that), we should construct some sort of trade. If we could get any kind of back-up to Millsap it would be beneficial.
Even when (if?) we see Boozer again this year it will take a while before he is back to 100%. A bum knee will affect every part of his game (jumping, running, manuvering, etc.).
