Jason Hart - Gone
UPDATE: From the Clippers site
"We are glad to have Jason back with us," Baylor said. "He played an important role for us when he was here previously, and we think he will be a valuable component this time as well."
Thanks Elgin!

Wow. I didn't think we would be able to get this done. Jason Hart has been traded back to the Clips for Brevin Knight.
Good move for the Jazz. Hart never could get the offense going. Maybe heading back to LA will allow him to play a bit better in a system he did okay in.
This move also shows that the Jazz FO is basically admitting that the Jason Hart experiment was a disaster. Hart unfortunately never seemed to fit in at Utah from the beginning. He was named the backup PG out of training camp because of Hard Work (TM). But even Hard Work (TM) can't make up for lack of skill.
So in comes Brevin Knight who is on the last year of his deal. He's making $2M (about what Hart was getting). The Jazz will be Knight's 10th team in 12 season! I'd like to be his real estate agent. He's a terrible shooter, but he's a very effective passer. He'll give Price some good competition for the backup spot. It should be Price's job, but it's good to know that if Price goes down, we have a competent replacement.
Knight has worn #22 for most of his career. We already have a #22 (provided he doesn't give it up).
So it's out with one journeyman and in with another. Hart never really seemed to warm up to the fans or to Utah. He wasn't a jerk, but he didn't seem like he wanted to be here. The Jazz must have been the only team that gave him a guaranteed two-year deal. What a waste. We still could have had Dee.
And let's hope this signifies some more moves to come.
Get those Jazz Hart jerseys before they're gone!

There is a (basketball) God!
I was watching the Jazz vs Hawks on NBATV when I see Hart’s name scroll across the bottom news ticker, and it turns out he’s traded. I couldn’t believe it at first, it’s awesome that we got rid of him.

We tied
UtonganKidInCali also had this up. We posted at the same time.

Awesome
but no we’ve got another vet PG for the 3rd spot.
I was hoping a buy out and then a signing of someone like Kruger (or dare I say Brazelton if he can play like he did yesterday).
Oh well…
Hart’s gone!!!
The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.
The best NBA team in Utah... no doubts about it!

Fantasy Guy
I had Brevin Knight on my fantasy team back when he was starting PG for the Bobcats in their inaugural season. I picked up him late in the draft thinking “Well, someone is going to have score points and pass the ball down there.” He made me look like a fantasy genius! Check out his numbers from that season: 10.1 points (on 42% shooting), 9.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. An assist-to-turnover ratio of nearly 4:1. He couldn’t hit a 3 point shot to save his life, but his other numbers kinda hid that fact. I nearly won my league that season. (Turns out Jason Hart was his backup that year. No wonder he had to do so much distributing).
Ever since then I’ve kinda had a soft spot for Knight. Too bad his numbers have regressed to the mean since then. But, he’ll definitely be an upgrade over Hart.

We don't need him to jack up 3's though
just find the open guy.
He’ll be the back-up/3rd-stringer (depending), but he’ll be playing (how every little it is) with guys like AK, Booze, Okur, Korver, Almond (?), Brewer, Deron/Price (?... if J-Slow goes to the 6’0 SG thing again). Plenty of people to score in all sorts of ways. Just find them.
And I’m pretty sure Brevin can do that.
The question is… what does this mean for Ronnie now?

I'm a Sloan supporter
And I might be in the minority on that point. But heaven help me if he decides to play Knight at all at the 2.
I think the job is still Ronnie’s. But we could see a lot more DNP for Price if Sloan decides to platoon them.

I think,
That Ronnie pretty much proved himself over the course of the regular season (not so much in the playoffs.) He definitely deserves the backup PG spot, so if it goes to this new guy that will not be good.

seems like a wash
Hart didn’t see a lot of time by the end of the season, and neither should Brevin. Contracts are similar, results will probably be similar. Feels almost like a PR-ish move, just to get an unliked and ill-fitting player out of town. Oh well. Welcome aboard, Mr. Knight.
I'll make it.

couldn't agree more
It is funny how this trade has made all of us so happy, but it doesn’t help the team financially or really make them any better. Knight is a lot better than Hart, but he might be the 3rd string guard. I think it shows fans that the Front Office is doing their job. Now all they need to do is trade Jarron Collins for his brother Jason.

Well, it saves us $900,000 this year.
Maybe the team is planning on using it. (Use it in matching for CJ?)

Didn’t even realize someone would take Hart. Are the Clippers trying to have a whole new roster by the start of the season?

Hart did well for them 2 years back
probably hoping for more of the same.

Do you guys realize...
That we’re one trade and one free-give away from a fantastic team?
Trade- Matty for anyone who can make a lay-up
(And we’ll throw Collins in as the free gift with purchase!)

It would be perfect
If we could trade Harp and re-sign CJ. Miles should be playing instead of Harp. Won’t happen though. Sloan would protest and no one would take Matt and his two years at $6M per. He’d have to be thrown in as part of another trade.

We should have used that extra money
In similar news, Chris “Birdman” Anderson just signed with the Nuggets for one year and $998,000. I still think he is the type of player that could have well been worth the risk. And there really isn’t a risk since he costs about 10 bucks by NBA standards. I could be wrong, but keep an eye out on him and see if he returns to become the great defensive center he was two seasons ago.

Man, it’s even worse. Since Birdman is playing on a one-year contract the Nuggets will get a reimbursement of over $200,000 against his salary from the league. So, the Nuggies are really only shelling out $798,000 for him. (The full $998,000 is still used to calculate his cap number). Any team that signs to a one-year contract Darius Miles will get the same deal.

The You Kevin...
I’m so glad to see Hart gone. The Jazz made the right move by dumping the disgruntled and over rated guard. When a guy that’s done nothing for your team and done nothing in this league is complaining about what might have been if he’d stayed with the Clippers last season then you know you’ve got to move on. The image of him holding up 3 fingers after hitting a buzzer beating three point shot still resonates in my mind and it bugs the snot out of me. This guys a tool and the Jazz are better off not having him. The Jazz got a good back-up in Knight that’s solid. I still like the athleticism and tenacity of Price, I hope Price can hang on to the back up spot, but it’s good to know we’ve got a guy like Knight ready to come in and give quality minutes. So long HART!!! Can’t wait for D-Will to rip you apart this upcoming season…

Don't let the door hit you on the way out...
BTW, I think it’s Price’s spot to lose. He proved himself to be a competent backup to Deron last year. I would hate to see him lose his spot because Knight is a veteran who used to be good. But if Knight is flat out better than Ronnie, by all means, play him.
