Miles staying
According to sources, the Jazz have matched Miles' contract offer from the OKC Thundercraps.
I'm heading to the Revue tonight. I'm sure this will overshadow the game and will be the talk of the night.
So what happens next? That gives the Jazz 15 players and as if you don't know, KOC likes to have 14. So like UtesFan89 said in the previous thread, is there a trade on the way? There's got to be something else up. What's Morris' future now? Has his performance at the Revue increased his stock?
Let's hear it.

If there is a trade it won't involve CJ...
According to KOC it can’t. The Jazz are required to keep him for at least a year.

Good that it was matched...
provided something else happens. If not, it could end up looking very stupid next off-season when Korver, Booze & Okur have all opted out & ‘Sap is a FA and all… and the Jazz are short on cash because their 12th man is getting $11 million over 3 years.
AK or Harp has to be on the way out, no? Or Brewer or Almond, if KOC is desperate enough to want CJ to stick (and stupid… because J-Slow probably isn’t liking this).

That's what I was thinking
There has to be another move coming because there’s no logic in paying CJ that kind of money just to fill in for injured players.

If the team trades AK
and keeps Matt, I think we’re in trouble.
Sure, AK has a bigger contract. But he shows up on the defensive end (even if it’s just weakside help). Plus, a 3-spot rotation of CJ & No Knees scares the hell out of me (Brewer & Korver at the 2-guard spot, I think, is what J-Slow would do, with Almond the 3rd-stringer). Now, if the depth chart read…
Deron, Price/Knight
Brewer, CJ, Almond
Korver, CJ, No Knees
Boozer, ‘Sap
Okur, Koufos/Fesenko, Flop
...it might be okay. AK or No Knees has to go (hopefully with Flop)... hopefully for some strength in the middle (an expiring contract or something?)

I think Brewer is gone...
1. He can’t shoot.
2. While I think he is our best 2 defender, he still isn’t that good. Morris may now be as good.
3. He may have some trade value based on his stats.
4. Morris Almond is read to step in.
5. CJ can play the 2 or 3.
Just some reasons…

That
would suck.
Brewer is the best guy at slashing to the hoop, which was important last year when the shots weren’t falling.
It makes sense though… as much as it sucks.

Stupid..
There is no one on the Jazz that can slash to the hoop like Brewer. He may not be the greatest outside shooter, but we don’t need him to be with D-Will, KK, Okur, etc. He gets his points by working hard to get into the paint so he can get easy baskets. That’s why his shooting percentage is so high.
People need to stop building up Almond like he’s Michael Redd. He’s not that great of a shooter. For you to say that Almond is just as good as Brewer makes me think that you don’t know a thing about basketball.
The list of 2’s and 3’s the Jazz should get rid of starts with Harpring and Almond.

As long as Korver is around
I agree with Almond being 2nd on that list.
If not… well then, Korver would be the first one on the list (because he’s not around = he’s gone) and No Knees 2nd.
As much as I like Almond (before this year’s RMR), we don’t need more shooters.

I am feeling mixed emotions.
I really like CJ and I’m glad to hear that he might be staying. But, if another player like Ronnie B. ends up going I’ll be sad. I think he and Deron play fantastic together. And, if for whatever reasont they get rid of KK, I just might call KOC personally and have a word with him. Let’s all pray that Matty is finally gone and that they threw in Collins just for fun!
by DaniellelovesKK on Jul 25, 2008 4:44 PM MDT 0 recs
The one reason to trade KK
would be if you fear him opting out after the year and leaving.
You know, you don’t want to lose someone for nothing (like Boozer).
Stupid reason, but you never know with the Jazz.

Brewer, Almond, KK
Looking back, doesn’t it seem like J-Slow would prefer the slasher/cutter guys over the long-bomb shooters? I mean, after Hornacek & Russell left, the team kinda abandoned the 3-point shot until Okur showed up, even with 3-point shooters like Marshall & Bell and all here.
If that’s his type of off-season, wouldn’t it be more likely that Korver or Almond got the boot, with Brewer staying?

Miles should be calling in for an interview
Here at the Revue. I’ll keep everyone updated.
by basketballjohn on Jul 25, 2008 6:01 PM MDT 0 recs
Just got off the phone with CJ
I’ll get the audio up later and these are just some general points from CJ’s interview,
-He’s happy to be staying
-He talked with Deron, KK, Millsap, and more. They’re all excited for him.
-He’s comfortable with his position on the Jazz.
-He vowed to come into training camp in shape.
That’s all I can remember for now. I’ll get things up later tonight.

Wait?
Since when does CJ just call you? And, please have KK call me.

Since all the time
You do you think broke the news? :). It was just a conference call with some of the reporters and CJ. I was trying hard not to sneak a peek at the number they called him on though.
And KK said you turned him down one too many times so he’s given up.

Holy crap
I was busy with family and girlfriend all day and only just saw the news. Can’t believe we’re keeping him.
I’m actually very pleased, because having watched the Revue this week, I have come to believe that Mo Nuts is just too far away. He gets to the line a lot, but he won’t get the benefit of those calls in the L. And Almond needs the ball in his hands to create—he doesn’t seem to be able to work off backscreens well enough to really get open, and that’s an integral part of the Jazz offense (it’s why Harpring has managed to stay afloat for so long). CJ moves better without the ball, I think, and can hit those shots better when he gets himself open.
There are two things to take away from this. First, to echo what has already been said, this simply leaves the Jazz with too many players under contract, at too great a price. Either we’re about to bite the bullet and take the luxury tax hit, or someone is on their way out, and KOC is confident the move can happen quickly. It’s not at all like the Jazz to dole out the cash, or to eliminate roster flexibility by cramming things so full. So I agree with those before me: something big seems to be in the offing.
This leads to the second thing: now that CJ’s got his payday, how will it affect his game? Will he take this as the validation he has been craving since Day 1 in the league, and actually fulfill his potential? Or will he be laughing all the way to the bank and sitting on the bench? I think it’s more up to CJ than Coach Sloan. Jerry has shown time and again that he sticks to his principles: work your ass off, and you get burn. Slack, and you ride the pine. I’m verrrrry curious to see how CJ responds, and what effect it will have on the team.
In all, a fascinating move, and I can’t wait to see what else is coming.
I'll make it.

Regarding Almond
That’s the one thing that worried me about his play in the RMR.
Most of the games, it seemed, his shot was off (4-12, 4-10, etc.)... up until the last one. He got his points by getting to the line… something that won’t come as easy during the regular season when he’s facing stars and the games is officiated by “professionals”.
He seems to be kinda slow getting around the screen… the defender is always able to get a hand in his face as soon as he gets the ball.
On the plus side, he seemed a bit more into-it defensively than he did in the few NBDL games I watched last year.

Good Move...
The Jazz made a good decision in keeping CJ Miles. Miles can play the 2 or the 3 and will prove his worth this season. Jerry Sloan needs to give this kid a chance. The Jazz also need to see one of their projects through more then just the few first years. Miles can be a valuable asset to the Jazz with his outside shooting and athletic play. I could see Miles coming in and taking the place of Brewer because of his shooting. Miles has a smooth shot and when given the opportunity last year came in and produced. Management believes in this kid so it’s time for the coaching staff, mainly Sloan; to start believing in this kid. Jazz need to get rid of one or two guys in that position as to create more opportunity for the young guys to perform. Who will be the odd man out? What two guard is most expendable? SoundOFF!!!
