Nets bigs on block?
The Nets were said to be considering sign-and-trade options earlier this summer, a scenario that was still an option if Krstic's Russian contract didn't work out.
New Jersey is heavy on forwards, and according to the article Sean Williams and Stromile Swift are believed to be on the trading block.
Using the RealGM trade checker, a straight-up deal could be Swift for Harpring. They'd probably want a 1st rounder or something (after all, it is Harpring)... the Jazz don't have a 1st rounder in 2009 (to the Sixers in the Korver trade)... not sure about 2nd rounders. The Jazz have a couple of 1st rounders in 2010... I highly doubt they use the Knicks one though. Swift's contract expires after the season, No Knees has 1 year left after the season.
Sean Williams could go straight up for Price or Brewer, though I don't see the Jazz doing that. Price is in the last year of his contract, Brewer has 1 year left on his rookie contract. Another option would be Williams for Almond & Fesenko, though I'm not sure if the Jazz would want to part with both of them, though Williams could/would be a shot-blocking presence inside.
Another option is a combo-deal... Harpring, Flop & picks as need be for Swift & Williams. Not sure if the Nets would want another Collins though... they just got rid of theirs last year (for Swift, no less).
Sean Williams comes in at 6'10, and averaged 5.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg and 1.5 bpg in 73 games last year (17.5 mpg). He shot 53.8% from the field and 60.9% from the line. There are some off-court issues from his college days though.
Stromile Swift got 6.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 1.0 bpg in 56 games last year (15.1 mpg). Over his career, he's averaged 8.6 ppg, 4.7 rpg and 1.2 bpg. He shot 50.9% from the field last year, raising his career average to 47.4%. His career FT% is 70.3%, though he was at 67% last year.
The thing is, if you look at the Nets depth chart right now, what they really seem to need is a PG. They have 7 wings (and we think we have a problem), 4 4's, and 3 5's. So maybe they wouldn't want Almond or No Knees or Flop or Fesenko though. Would Price or Knight be enough? And would it be worth it on our end to give up our back-up PG (who has shown the ability to spell Deron effectively) to get another "big"?
I'm just guessing here though... who knows what they want.
Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? Am I out of my mind?

I'd love if we could land Sean Williams
Maybe what we could do, if what they’re after is a PG, is package Brevin Knight (we can trade a guy we just got, right?) with Collins or Fes. Then, we could pick up someone like Tyrone Brazelton or Kevin Kruger to fill in as our 3rd PG.
Sorry if this situation is impossible/illogical, I didn’t really do my research on this one.

Knight
can’t be traded until September 23rd (60-days from the day of trade, or something like that).
Knight & Flop would mean you’d have to do a combined deal for Yi & Sean… neither team would do that, IMO.
Knight & Fesenko = Sean & Josh Boone… don’t know if they’d give up both of them though.

I also believe that we can only trade him in a straight-up swap – I don’t think he can be part of a package deal. I can’t easily find confirmation of this though, so take it with a grain of salt.

You can go
Knight for Sean straight-up, I think. Not sure why they’d do that.
Is straight up just for the players? I mean, can we toss in a pick or what-not?
Just wondering if you know… I’m not sure about the rules.

I’m not sure about that, either. Future draft picks are worth exactly zero dollars under the salary cap, so it seems like you would be able to throw in some picks and/or cash compensation if necessary.

If this is true we should Target Sean Williams
Sean Williams would be an upgrade at backup center. I would give up anything short of our starters, Millsap, Korver, and Miles (who can’t be traded anyway).

But why is Williams on the Block?
But if Williams is on the block, the Nets are going to try to get something good for him because A) he is cheap at $1.5 million and B) he is an expiring contract, so they wouldn’t want either of those things back. They would want someone who can contribute.

Sean...
Sean has 2 years left on his rookie deal, just like Almond.
Almond would give them a jump-shooting wing to back-up VInsanity/CDR/Yi (at the 2 & 3 spots), Fesenko (if developed) could turn into a back-up for Brook Lopez… especially with Krstic in Russia now and Swift’s contract up after the year.
If they prefer a PG, you could give them Price instead of Almond… he can contribute now, and has an expiring contract if they don’t want to be saddled with him later. But they just signed Keyon Dooling to back-up the recently acquired (trade deadline last year) Devin Harris, so I’m not sure they’d need Price.
Oh, and the Nets can’t take much back… they’re over the cap as well, so they can’t get back much more than the $1.5 million or w/e that Sean is due to make.
And he’s supposedly on the block because of their glut of big-men (Sean, Boone, Najera, Ryan Anderson, Brook, Stromile, Yi).
Maybe they try to force the team to take KVH’s contract or Bobby Simmons with Sean. In that case, you could give up No Knees plus picks (for KVH). If they try it with Simmons, you’d have to wait till August 10th (recently traded), it would cost us Boozer. Not sure that’d be worth it, unless Simmons is totally healthy and the team is confident AK can play the 4. Plus, trading Booze for Simmons & Sean would be fairly stupid… the team could definitely do better.

Williams has one guaranteed year left
The second year is a team option, just like with Morris Almond. So to the Nets, Williams is an expiring contract.

Quick news...
Krstic to Russia a done deal (according to Chard Ford via Krstic’s agent), and Okafor is near a 6-year deal with the Bobcats.

Dang
He would’ve been a nice pick-up… provided the team had space. Of course, then Okur or Okafor or Booze would have to come off the bench, and they wouldn’t agree to that.

Williams played at BC right?
If he’s the player I’m thinking of, I would go for it. He was a beast in college. Although he’s a bit undersized, he’d be a better option to backup Okur than anyone on the roster right now. Plus he’s cheap, and if it doesn’t work out, he’s not long term. Swift would give us length, but he seems a little soft to me. I would be happy with either player, but I’d prefer Williams, all things considered. Make a move KOC!
