Good Name,Bad Name, You Name, Who Name, HUH?

So I posted up some of my ideas on http://allthatjazzbasketball.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2008-08-05T00%3A07%3A00-04%3A00&max-results=10

with a few names i think fit some of the Jazz and why.  Here they are:

Star-divide

Deron  Williams: "The Don" descending from Latin "dominus," master, lord.   Deron is definitely in charge when he's on the court controlling all aspects of the game. Most dominant PG in the league.

Ronnie Brewer: "Midnight Marauder" Someone who moves about in roving fashion looking for plunder. i.e. ally oops, steals, break away dunks, back door cuts etc.

Carlos Boozer: "Polar Express" or Polar X.. Hailing from the north. He is on track every night (besides the playoffs).  to get  20 x 10 and rebounds every night.

I think these names fit and sound alot better than whats been the wierd first letter of first name+last name trend (rut) thats been goin on...

So i'm interested in ya'lls ideas...what names you got?

The current trend

is crap.

I mean, just today, the Pirates announcer (wrong sport, but it works) just called Jason Michaels “J-Mich” (pronounced Mike). Um… no.
That shouldn’t even count as a nickname.

The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.
The best NBA team in Utah... no doubts about it!
Playing For Pride. Pirates, Utes, Panthers, and more...
Because, in the end, only one team can "win it all".

in general

I am anti-nicknames when they are manufactured. I’ll never forget Hot Rod Hundley trying to foist the moniker “Slick” on Deron Williams. Slick Willy. Really now. This is a family show.

I’d prefer to stick with calling members of the team the same things that other members of the team call them. Like “Ronnie B” for Brewer, or ‘Sap for Millsap—simple but effective.

The exception to this, of course, is when using derogatory nicknames like No Knees (Harpring) or Flop (Collins). Those I have picked up from UtesFan, and I think they’re funny. But even those I prefer to use when the occasion is relevant, and not necessarily exclusively.

That’s just me.

(oh, and “Midnight Marauder” sounds like a nickname for a heavyweight boxer.)

I'll make it.

I'm not sure about the other two,

but I’m all for calling Booze “Polar Express”.

I thought Boozer was And-1

The whole nickname thing is out of control. There aren’t as many cool nicknames as there once was. Everyone’s kind of gotten lazy with the whole first initial, first few letters of the last name thing.

It seems like everyone is trying to force a nickname on someone, ala Hot Rod. I know Deron didn’t like Slick at all. He had an interview with Nike and he despised it when it was brought up.

I think if you don’t have a nickname by the time you reach the pros, it’s too late for the most part.
