Seven Reasons Why the Jazz Will Win the Championship this year

This begins an ongoing series entitled 7 reasons.

1.  Deron Williams will continue to get better next season.  Did you know that if Deron Williams improved statistically at the same rate he has been, he would average 23 points a game and 13.5 assists this next year?  And the funny thing is that I can fathom those kind of stats being real.  If he continues to play well at the olympics, you can only imagine how much confidence he will have next season.

2. They will learn to win on the road and have a top seed going into the playoffs.  You all know how deadly this team is with homecourt advantage.  And if they were able to lock up a top seed, you have to believe they would have a legitimate chance of making it to the finals.

3.  The contract year effect.  The fact Boozer, Okur and Korver could all be up for new contracts next year (and on possibly new teams) might get them all to play there best ball.  It happens to some players.  Bonzi Wells, Tim Thomas, and Vince Carter are just a few players that have been incredibly productive for a year and then crapped out after getting a big contract offer following.  The Jazz would be formidable if Boozer, Okur, and Korver play their best ball this next season.

4.  They are due.  About only half of the teams/cities in the NBA currently, have won an NBA championship in the last 50 years.  Teams like the Jazz, and the Suns, and the Kings have come close but no cigar.  Even teams like the Blazers and 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks have banners.  Eventually one of these championless teams will break through and the Jazz have as good a shot as any of them.

5.  They may be the least flawed team in the West.  I know that the Jazz's lack of inside defense seems big, but look at some of the other teams.  The Lakers wil be counting on a 21 year old and his untested knee to take them to the next level.  The Rockets will have physical and mental health concerns all year long and they have a first round mental block.  The Hornets will compete, but they have one of the thinnest frontcourts in the west.  After West and Chandler, they have Ely and Armstrong.  Not going to get you far.  Half of the Spurs roster will check into a nursing home this season and the Suns and Mavericks are riding off into the sunset.

6.  The front office has one last Ace up their sleeve.  The Jazz are one small move away from adding the last piece they need.  They will make that one last savvy move and add the shot blocker we need.  Besides, with Deron's new found ambassador skills, maybe he can convince someone to ask to join the Jazz midseason.

7.  The officiating changes with the guard.  We all know the physical play of the Jazz is rewarded when the refs let the teams play ball and with the new "colonel" of the officiating crew, maybe this is the year that Kobe stops shooting 3 free throws a game or the Spurs entire roster gets rewarded for falling over and flailing their collective arms.
