Ronnie Brewer's 2009-10 option picked up
The Jazz picked up Ronnie Brewer's option for 2009-2010. The other news from this story was about Matt Harpring,
In other news from media day, Matt Harpring will not travel with the team to Boise, Idaho, for the start of training camp Tuesday.
Harpring underwent ankle surgery in June and spent weeks battling a staph infection afterward.
Harpring spent four days in the hospital with the infection. He will head to Santa Barbara, Calif., to work with private trainers at the Peak Performance Project.
Here's CJ's chance to steal Matt's minutes.

It will be interesting to see if we extend Brewer next summer.
I am so glad we picked him up. He is giving quality production at a really low price for at least two more seasons. I also think this story of Matt Harpring is the beginning of the end. His body just isn’t cutting it right now and it is only going to get worse. He is declining fast because he has always played so physical. And you are spot on. Hopefully CJ works his butt off and shows he is worthy of PT.

beginning of the end
is a good way to put it. I fervently hope so. Maybe we can convince him that he’s too beat up to keep playing, buy out his contract and get him to retire. (Would that erase his money against the cap? Sure would help…)
I'll make it.

Unfortunately the contract of a retired player still counts against the cap.

Although, if we buy him out for an amount less than his remaining contract and waive him only the amount of the buyout will count against our cap space. To put it a little more plainly is owed $6 million and $6.5 million respectively over the next two years. If we buy him out for half that amount, $6.25 million, we would be charged $3 million against the cap this season, and $3.25 million next season (2009-10).

In case you couldn’t already tell, my favorite part of the NBA isn’t the actual game of basketball itself, but instead the weird little-game-inside-the-game of cap manipulation.

wow, nice work
I’ve visited that link many times but obviously haven’t put in the same legwork you have. Kudos.
It was a pipe dream, anyway, Matty’s not going anywhere for the next three years except the court and the bench.
I'll make it.

that’s twice in one thread you’ve one-upped me. I will now take the next seventeen hours to reevaluate my life.
I'll make it.

Like Collins...
Collins is nice to have on the roster for two games each year – when we play the Heat and Shaq. Likewise, we could keep Harpring on the roster just for the sake of Denver games so he can go get inside Melo’s head. When those two run along the baseline to get position on the block, it’s more hockey than basketball. Harpring relishes that and Melo can’t stand it. I love it.
I was skeptical when they let Donyell Marshall go to get Matt, but he’s clearly been a good man for the Jazz. Nevertheless, we could do worse than to have CJ getting more minutes.
Leave the ball, will you George?

It Seems Like
Harpring always spends a few days a year in the hospital battling some sort of infection.

He needs to work on basic infection prevention.
You know, like washing his hands after using the bathroom, or not eating food he finds on the floor.
