CJ Miles out with a ruptured left thumb ligament

Bad news already,

LONDON (October 5, 2009) - Utah Jazz guard/forward C.J. Miles suffered a ruptured left thumb ligament during practice today at London's O2 Arena and will require surgery to repair the ligament, Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor announced today.  Miles was examined by team orthopedist Dr. Lyle Mason and is expected to return to Salt Lake City to have the procedure performed.

A report on the surgery and an estimated timeline for recovery will be provided following the procedure.

This just can't be happening, right?  From @lockedonsports updates, it looks like he could be out anywhere from 7-9 weeks.  And then how long does it take for him to get back into shape and into the flow of things again?

Maybe this speeds up a Boozer trade for a shooting wing?  Or will the Jazz just stay pat?  I think you know what they'll do.

Here's to a speedy recovery.

again...

if the jazz spent the last season and a half giving harps mins to Morris Almond, and we picked up the team option on his rookie contract a year ago (oct 08) then we wouldn’t have a problem right now.

the big problem isn’t with number of healthy bodies, it’s the number of people available who can maintain the necessary floor spacing on offense for the offense that we run. here are our outside threats:

Memo
Korver
CJ (injured)
Deron (poor percentage)
Ronnie Price (low playing time)

That’s it. We need outside shooters to keep the defense honest in order to balance the inside play of Boozer, Millsap, Brewer, Andrei and crew.

Hmmm . . . didn’t we draft a guy (so obviously we liked him), keep him in the system for two years, jack him around with playing time, let him pay his dues, and didn’t he even score 50 points twice on mostly jumpers?

Good thing the jazz brass chased him off. It’s much better to get rid of an NBA-DL all-star in favor of giving a chance for some NBA-DL scrubs to make the roster.

So yeah, no harp, no cj (for at least the first 2 months) — perfect oppurtunity to use a guy you had been grooming.

Guess the Jazz just hate drafting guys named Mo . . . we always give up on them. (Mo Williams, Mo Almond)

I hope you are kidding.

We would be in even worse luxury tax hell next season with a not better team. I don’t think Michael Redd gets us over the top by any means.

But most importantly everyone, CJ will be fine and come back fine from this. I bet he misses 5-10 regular season games and he will come back close to game shape. Thumb surgery isn’t going to keep him from hardly any necessary workouts. You can’t lift weights too extensively during the season, so he will be okay there. But he will be able to run a couple days after surgery and he will probably even be able to participate in a lot of team drills.

It sucks that he is injured, but this isn’t an injury that sets a guy back, unless it breaks his psyche. CJ’s psyche could be broken last season, but not this season.

Why would this year be different for CJ's psyche?

It has always been the thing holding him back and I doubt that will change. I think he will always be a good role player and that’s it.

I would still like to see Booz./Harp for McGrady if the Rockets would go for it. One year commitment, then see where we are in the draft. That is the only way I see us being true contenders THIS year and beyond. Otherwise I just don’t see any 2 being available who could put us over the top. With the remote exception (a very long shot) of Caron Butler. Anyone else a Butler fan? But I’ve tried to figure out scenario’s where we could get him without giving up the Knick’s pick, but I can’t come up with one. And I wouldn’t give that up at ANY cost until we know what pick it will be and who will be available.

CJ is a totally different person this season. Look at how hard he has worked this season.

And then go listen to his interview with David Locke. Completely different person than last season’s CJ Miles. Has CJ ever gone 5-7 from the field in his life? And he did it the first game of the season. This season will still be fantastic for CJ.

As far as your McGrady trade proposal. I completely agree. If we could trade Boozer and change for McGrady, I think it would be a fantastic move basketball wise, while giving us equal financial outlooks, essentially.

The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.

Best wishes to CJ

I guess that gives Brewer the starting spot?

Maybe they should trade for the other Brewer…=) just kidding

arghhh

Deron Williams had so much momentum going into last season, and then he stepped on Rose’s ankles. It took forever for him to get that momentum back. I think Miles has had a hard-working, confidence-building offseason, and now he’ll be playing catch-up all year instead of playing downhill. This sucks.

I'll make it coach.

Think about it for a minute though.

A thumb vs. an ankle. Ankles control most of your quickness and explosion and a CJ might not lose anything with a injured thumb. Is it the thumb on his shooting hand? That might make it a little different, but this injury isn’t going to be a big deal long term. I bet he only misses 12 games.

And I think Wes Matthews now has the upper hand in making the team.

The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
