Trail Blazers @ Jazz - Game Thread

Portland Trail Blazers at Utah Jazz, Nov 28, 2009 7:00 PM MST

I am on the road tonight so I apologize for no preview.

What Jazz team will we see tonight? Portland struggled with Charlotte Memphis last night.

Let's hope the Jazz keep up the good passing.

Portland struggled with Memphis last night (not Charlotte)

and they didn’t struggle either. They got their asses handed to ’em on a plate. Hopefully the PTB will revert back to being a quality team and woop Utah like they should.

Good luck Jazz.

I'm kind of half-watching the game right now.

It seems like our guys are off to a good start.

I'm at work, but I have it on gamecast.

After the disappointing game against Memphis last night, it is funny how pessimistic both of the fanbases of these teams has become. But with some good reason, because both of these teams have looked like world beaters and then lottery teams the next night. They are both sort of in similar positions, except that the Jazz have the Carlos Boozer/ Paul Millsap thing while the Blazers have Miller and Blake being debated about.

For the Jazz, the Millsap/ Boozer thing isn’t an issue right now, but could be at some time.

it's arguable which team is deeper

and the teams are both very young, but i expect more from the jazz because the core has been together for so long.

Its about time, Deron started dialing up the assists.

And as far as Carlos Boozer goes, I have softened my stance a little.

And I figured out what player he is like and that is Lamar Odom. When Odom was called upon to be a top 2 guy for the Lakers, he could only do it on occasion and it drove the Laker fans wild. He showed glimpses of greatness and then played inconsistently and drove Laker fans mad. So I am fine with having Carlos Boozer on the team as long as the team doesn’t try to make him a “go to guy” or even a 2nd option.

Add a go to scorer to the team with Boozer and Williams and you may be onto something. Anyways, I just think Boozer and Odom are really alike. Good players who need to be surrounded by two better players to succeed.

Good comparison

Now all Booze needs is a whacked hotty, then they’ll be the same guy.

by Juan B on Nov 28, 2009 7:45 PM MST up reply actions

We just need to find a Pau Gasol.

Or really just a shooting guard who can score 15-20 points a night on his own.

clark...

do you have any medical insight into magic spray?

by moni on Nov 28, 2009 7:57 PM MST up reply actions

Its a placebo. But if the player thinks it will work, then it will.

Just like Ritalin and Viagra.

Viagra

is actually a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, therefore preserving the cyclic GMP produced by the nitric oxide stimulus, which relaxes the smooth muscle and facilitates the erection. sorry, i have a test on this stuff in a couple weeks.

I love how

(on Siler/Luhm’s blog) they mention that the Jazz are worried about the “height” of the Blazers (Oden, LMA, Przybilla)… yet Fesenko barely sees the court.

I had the same thought

but he jumped toward the hoop. Call it a “short” ten footer, and again, no, he did not put it in the cylinder

It was more like a 7 foot put shot / finger roll.

ugh.

so with crash playing well and the addition of sjax, what do you see in diaw’s future? some advice from the person at the top of the leaderboard would be great ;-)

I would use him as a utility guy, still.

Who are your other PF and SF options?

jason thompson, memo and al jeff on one team

randolph, murphy, okafor on the other

so…there you have six guys that are not lighting it up

No idea, but I’d assume he gets it turned around soon. Just going to take some time to figure out the shots there…

You do realize...

that I’ve made the most waiver moves of anyone in the league, right?

You don’t want to ask me for advice, because more likely than not my response will be “drop/trade him”…

yeah, but

i’ve made the second most moves and #1, 3, and 4 with the most moves are ranked the top three. in other words, i’m the big fat failure here…

And drop the right guys...

I’ve dropped/traded my 4th, 5th, 7th & 8th rounders… and more that I don’t currently remember.

(Speaks volumes about my drafting, I guess)

Statement...

6 minutes into the 3rd quarter OF A COLLEGE FOOTBALL game, Houston (up 66-6) has more points than either the Jazz or the Blazers. (They had 59 at the half, which is how many the Jazz have right now)

i was just thinking to myself that i don't really mind locke that much

then he started making verbal love to boozer, and i remembered why i don’t like listening to him

by moni on Nov 28, 2009 8:32 PM MST reply actions

I'm gonna start making textual love to him.

He’s been incredible of late… states obvious

Howdy everyone

Slightly depressed about BYU/Utah, but this game has been a blast to listen to.

by Basketball John on Nov 28, 2009 8:38 PM MST reply actions

so what's the real question here?

1) when did we get so good?
or
2) when did the blazers get so bad?

by bigdog'sshades on Nov 28, 2009 8:41 PM MST reply actions

Blazers on 2nd of back-to-back...

…although they were awful against the Grizzle last night. And just Jazz are shooting lights out.

by rxmike12 on Nov 28, 2009 8:42 PM MST up reply actions

or did the blazers play crappy in a late game last night and now they’re just tired?

by bigdog'sshades on Nov 28, 2009 8:42 PM MST up reply actions

Yes.

It forced my daughter to be banned from future Jazz games. Yes, I blame her.. oh, she’s 5.

that’s a real fan…on par with whoever it was last time that refused to speak to their guests until the jazz game was over last time

Yeah, she had on her pink li'l jersey and only cried at the end when she got bored.

But I don’t think he’s being melodramatic — Booze is really playing well.

Did Boler just call this a "runaway win"

with 11 minutes left to go?

if i was the coach

starters would come out now. every minute they play is a minute that puts them at risk for injury, and we’ve had enough of that.

with a 25-point lead

i’m amused by the way memo just meanders aimlessly from spot to spot on the floor

by moni on Nov 28, 2009 8:58 PM MST reply actions

That was pretty good

Booze got neck slapped and the foul called on him as well!

Prediction

Next dead ball, Sloan will realize we’re up by 20 and it’s not the first half anymore, and he’ll pull a few players

Scouting report:

“He brings an athleticism not normally seen in Utah. His stair-sliding ability is second to none in this league, and the guy is an animal with silly string.”

Or have there not been as many snap-T’s called this year? Not just the Jazz games but around the league. Is it just early, maybe?

108-92
