Game Thread - San Antonio Spurs @ Utah Jazz

San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz, Nov 5, 2009 8:30 PM MST

There's truth in the statement that the the team's losses have come against some of the best teams in the league.  That doesn't change tonight as the Spurs of San Antonio.

I'm sure we'll see the crowd get behind the Jazz early and often.  But I imagine there will be quick turnaround if there's sloppy, uninspired play.

Let's get to it.

I'm ready

I’m on a massive high from Real Salt Lake’s come-from-behind road win over Columbus to advance in the MLS playoffs.

If Real can do it, the Jazz can too.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

by Shums on Nov 5, 2009 8:25 PM MST reply actions

yup.

defending league champs, best record this year too. I’m absolutely euphoric.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

by Shums on Nov 5, 2009 8:33 PM MST up reply actions

that was so cool. if only the jazz could be so clutch.

by bigdog'sshades on Nov 5, 2009 8:58 PM MST up reply actions

the game is on TV

and i’m not tuning in. for the first time in history.

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 8:31 PM MST reply actions

Really?

You’re going to leave me alone with all the boys?

by DaniellelovesKK on Nov 5, 2009 8:33 PM MST up reply actions

i'll listen on the radio

but i won’t watch…they’re all yours haha

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 8:34 PM MST up reply actions

i did NOT just hear locke

saying that boozer hit huge shots in the 4th in DAL and almost righted the sinking ship

are you FFF kidding me?

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 8:31 PM MST reply actions

He blogged something similar

I wonder if Boozer gives him a taste of his 12.9 mil every time Locke says something good about him. He will defend Boozer to the grave.

According to Locke, it’s nobody’s fault that the Jazz are losing. He said a timeout wouldn’t have helped either, and who knows whether rotating guys instead of just memo to guard Dirk would have been the difference.

by scrantonicity33 on Nov 5, 2009 8:34 PM MST up reply actions

seriously

have to wonder if there’s some kickback going on there. I’m staggered at how much Locke defends Boozer. I haven’t been one to pile on Boozer thus far, but to still support the guy when he scored a lousy 12 points, most of which were meaningless, and pulled a 27 on +/ is inconceivable.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

by Shums on Nov 5, 2009 8:36 PM MST up reply actions

and he was always like this

even before he started announcing games

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 8:40 PM MST up reply actions

He's the biggest Booze supporter in the world

I wonder if he does games Drunk…

I’m not going to watch till late in the game, I don’t want to get my hopes up only to have another meltdown

by utahmanami on Nov 5, 2009 8:35 PM MST reply actions

Avoiding a meltdown

turn it on for the first 5 minutes, and then jump ship.

my new Jazz watching strategy:

-Go back and forth between the game and Grey’s Anatomy (I love that McDreamy).

-When the fourth quarter collapse happens switch the channel and pray.

by DaniellelovesKK on Nov 5, 2009 8:37 PM MST reply actions

Not bad...

Mine is reading Simmon’s Book of Basketball. At least it’ll lighten the mood…

by scrantonicity33 on Nov 5, 2009 8:38 PM MST up reply actions

I know

He mentioned that he would probably get shot by a crazy Utah fan wearing a D-Will jersey in either a column or a podcast i can’t remember.

by scrantonicity33 on Nov 5, 2009 8:41 PM MST up reply actions

and if he doesn't

he’ll still say that he did

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 8:42 PM MST up reply actions

no way

he makes like five jokes about how he’ll never do a signing here in his sections on Stockton and Malone. Right after he calls Stockton one of the all-time dirtiest players and makes fun of Mormons. *eye roll

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

by Shums on Nov 5, 2009 8:42 PM MST up reply actions

how about FAIL!

with the exclamation mark

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 8:41 PM MST up reply actions

I seem to remember

from the Olympics last year the Chinese had given him a nickname that translated as “Betrayal Skull Dude” because of what he had done to Cleveland. That’s not bad.

What’s the opposite of intangibles? That could be a good one for him as well…

by scrantonicity33 on Nov 5, 2009 8:42 PM MST up reply actions

yeah...it was actually because of the shape of his skull

that they call him that, but the literal meaning also worked.

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 8:43 PM MST up reply actions

good grief

everytime locke has to bring up boozer and admit he is not a basketball god he has to immediately follow it with sap is not playing well. every. time.

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 8:50 PM MST reply actions

wow

I never realized how ugly AK’s jumper looks

there was only a little booing against the clippers

hahaha

fantastic graphic TNT has up on the Boozer saga. glad to see they know all the ins and outs.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

by Shums on Nov 5, 2009 9:04 PM MST reply actions

Booze!

Boozer is going to match all of his blocks from last year with this game! i don’t know if that is good or bad.

by P_Dizzle on Nov 5, 2009 9:06 PM MST reply actions

should we be happy boozer is finally playing? it has to help his trade stock, right? surely greg miller won’t justify keeping boozer

by P_Dizzle on Nov 5, 2009 9:07 PM MST reply actions

Boozer knows nobody watches Jazz games

His plan is to only preform well on days that are nationally televised

by Bobby Joness on Nov 5, 2009 9:08 PM MST reply actions

gotta love the inevitably out-of-control sets run through AK

by bigdog'sshades on Nov 5, 2009 9:10 PM MST reply actions

Let the early game horses get a bit of a lead.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 9:13 PM MST reply actions

dejaun blair or eric maynor

if you could re-draft would you take blair over maynor?

by P_Dizzle on Nov 5, 2009 9:15 PM MST reply actions

Please note

one time I went to a Jazz game vs. the Spurs and the Jazz won.

by DaniellelovesKK on Nov 5, 2009 9:16 PM MST reply actions

Yes!!!

A Popovich sideline interview!!!

They’re the best.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 9:20 PM MST reply actions

it'll be interesting

once kk and miles come back. matthews won’t get much tick, but he is a great energy guy off the bench. reminds me of a trevor ariza from last year… maybe not that influential but a great energy guy. fits nicely in a jazz uniform.

by P_Dizzle on Nov 5, 2009 9:27 PM MST up reply actions

guessing no Fes (or The Koof) today.

price

too much dribbling. just get rid of the damn ball

by P_Dizzle on Nov 5, 2009 9:30 PM MST reply actions

booze

anyone else notice that booze always gets the ball from the ref and touches it when the opponent is shooting free throws. kind of like he is putting a hex on the ball. watch after parker’s first shot

by P_Dizzle on Nov 5, 2009 9:32 PM MST reply actions

I can't stand parker

it makes it even worse when he does good

by Bobby Joness on Nov 5, 2009 9:34 PM MST reply actions

But he’s on my fantasy team this year.

by P_Dizzle on Nov 5, 2009 9:36 PM MST reply actions

well i am going to go watch the rest of this in bed. the computer is getting shut down for the night. if i am lucky i will fall asleep b4 the 4th quarter and go to bed happy.

Boozer at his best
  1. in the NBA in BA
  2. in the NBA in 4th quarter scoring after the other team already won.
  3. in the NBA in shouts to Memo to do something to save his butt on the defensive end

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 9:45 PM MST reply actions

parker with three fouls

smart move by dwill attacking him

by jake1ar on Nov 5, 2009 9:48 PM MST reply actions

Something is wrong

As much as I complain about Boozer doing bad I am actually getting disappointed that he is not sucking it up

by Bobby Joness on Nov 5, 2009 9:48 PM MST reply actions

It’s because you know that the FO is looking at this and saying “see, he rocks!” and somehow forgetting that he’s now played decent in 1 out of 5 games.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 9:50 PM MST up reply actions

this is so exactly it

i am going through the exact same thing

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 9:52 PM MST up reply actions

Boozer playing well can only lead to good things

As much as I despise him, we should be hoping he rips it up, cuz his trade value increases or he helps the jazz win

by jake1ar on Nov 5, 2009 9:52 PM MST reply actions

I agree

the problem is if the front office thinks he is playing well statistically while ignoring all the things that are killing the jazz chemistry on the court. But we gotta hope he actually does play well and helps the jazz win

by jake1ar on Nov 5, 2009 9:54 PM MST up reply actions

And because it took him 11 shots

to get 13 points, while AK has 8 in 5 shots and Millsap has 5 in 1 shot.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 9:52 PM MST reply actions

GUYS I JUST FIGURED IT OUT

Boozer is playing harder because he’s on national television.

Holly crap

Boozer actually jumped to attempt to block that

by Bobby Joness on Nov 5, 2009 9:56 PM MST reply actions

I'm not sure what's more stunning

that he jumped
or that he didn’t fall down because he didn’t know what to do next.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 9:58 PM MST up reply actions

Yep

Boozer jumped for dear life.

Manu would have eaten the thing alive.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 10:06 PM MST up reply actions

No its me

Greg miller. and I am only wearing a boozer jersey right now.

by jake1ar on Nov 5, 2009 10:05 PM MST up reply actions

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 10:25 PM MST reply actions

seriously

it’s getting a little ridiculous. Yes, he’s playing well tonight. One performance will not erase months of ill-feeling and horrible early season losses.

The blatant, irrational support Locke/KFAN have given Boozer is impossible to ignore.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

by Shums on Nov 5, 2009 10:27 PM MST up reply actions

i can't agree more

and i can’t understand it.

earlier he also said that boozer got a standing ovation from the crowd (this was mid-way through the 1st quarter)

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 10:28 PM MST up reply actions

what do you guys think it will take

for boozer to win back our allegiance? I am thinking an all star year with 25 pts and 12 reb. and 3 blocks a game will do it for me. And he has to give out free tickets to all slcdunk bloggers.

by jake1ar on Nov 5, 2009 10:30 PM MST up reply actions

Not enough

Add 1 more thing:

He needs to power the Jazz to a win in San Antonio, pounding the ball inside, putting the moves on Duncan, and protecting the paint for 40 minutes like a rabid wolf protecting its food.

And keep his mouth shut.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 10:34 PM MST up reply actions

good point

i want jumpers to be not his first option and not his only option. take it inside.

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 10:37 PM MST up reply actions

If dogs can be trained to salivate at the ring of a bell...

Boozer can be taught to take it inside, by a simple hit to the balls every time he doesn’t. Listen to me on this one Jerry… It will work, or the fans will at least feel some justice.

by Bobby Joness on Nov 5, 2009 10:41 PM MST up reply actions

Duncan just went by Boozer like he was a turnstyle

The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.

by clarkpojo on Nov 5, 2009 10:34 PM MST reply actions

of course, locke chose that moment

to talk about how roger mason is a jazz killer

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 10:35 PM MST up reply actions

Just checked out the box score on ESPN

Boozer: 15 shots, 19 points, 28 minutes, +4
Millsap: 5 points, 1 shot, 13 minutes, +3

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 10:42 PM MST reply actions

until a minute or so ago,

boozer had the lowest +/- on the jazz

by moni on Nov 5, 2009 10:43 PM MST up reply actions

Boozer must think he's batman or something

because he kind of jumped out of the way when Manu drove in.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 10:47 PM MST reply actions

I actually like a lot about Sloan ...

but notice how Popovich called a timeout to try to regroup after just a couple minutes of seeing cruddy play to start the 4th.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 10:59 PM MST reply actions

Especially the way the wisps stick out of the side of his head.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 11:02 PM MST reply actions

by sherbs on Nov 5, 2009 11:02 PM MST reply actions

Millsap steps in at the last minute to force a cruddy shot.

by Yucca Man on Nov 5, 2009 11:21 PM MST reply actions

by bigdog'sshades on Nov 5, 2009 11:25 PM MST reply actions

Not to take anything away from the win

but the Spurs are not great. Duncan has lost several steps. Their other bigs are Matt Bonner, Antonio McDyess and DeJuan “No ACL’s” Blair. Yikes.

by Brigadier Pudding on Nov 5, 2009 11:34 PM MST reply actions

"the Spurs are not great"

Which means the win is a good thing considering that we have never had a problem competing with great teams during the season…
