Unrealistic trade proposals from Hornets fan

Hello utes. My apologies for the slow start to the season. As a Hornets fan I can really commiserate.

As with many fans of teams with slow starts, I am prone to unrealistic trade proposals.

That being said, trade ideas are always fun, so let's give it a whirl.

Trade D West and Posey plus cash for Kevin Martin and Freddie Garcia

Trade Peja and 2 top 10 protects picks for Andre Kirilenko

We get the best 2 that the New Orleans Hornets have ever had.

For Sacto, getting D West allows them to play Jason Thompson at his natural center position. And Dwest gets anthoer mobile big to cover for him on pick and roll d. Evans is a 2. His last few games with Sacremento have highlighted this.

As for Utah, this move allows them to move Korver at the trade deadline for just cash. He makes less than 6 mill, so if sold to a team with cap room halfway through the year, Utah can just pay a team 3 million to take him off of their hands for cap space. New Orleans would be willing to throw in Posey probably, provided that you would want him. He could give the spark and toughness that Harpring used to give you and he is a better shooter. In that scenario, the Kings would take Harpring's contract, so you still would save 3 mill in the deal. Utah probably wouldn't do this because posey has some years on his contract, and he is recovering from surgery. So what do you guys think? Am I completely crazy?

I think the Kevin Martin injury pretty much kills this trade proposal.Just for fun, let’s see what the Trade Machine has to say:

The Utah Jazz trade Andrei Kirilenko to the New Orleans Hornets for Peja Stojakovic and James Posey
The New Orleans Hornets trade David West to Sacramento for Kevin Martin

You Posey in there twice, so I sent him to Utah. And, since Garcia is a base-year compensation player it’s nearly impossible to move him, so I dropped him from the trade.

Well, in theory, it works. But, I don’t think the Jazz would do it because they would be taking on another ~$19 million over the next three years. Our cap space is screwed up enough already, adding on James Posey’s dead weight isn’t going to solve that problem. Additionally, Peja and Posey are probably a downgrade over AK, especially when you consider Peja’s injury history. (Chronic back problems are always scary).

Sacramento might make this trade – especially since they have a much cheaper player in Tyreke Evans who can seemingly duplicate most of Martin’s numbers. But, Martin’s broken wrist is probably a deal breaker on the New Orleans side.

But, I think the biggest reason why Utah and Sacramento don’t make this trade is because New Orleans would be the clear “winner”. No team, except Memphis, ever wants to be seen as the loser in any trade – especially a team, like Utah, that’s has started out slowly. Shuffling deck chairs never goes over well with any fanbase.

Yeah there are some issues

First of all I agree that AK is a better player than Peja and Pos, but that’s the point. It is why you get picks in the deal. The question is if the veteran toughness, and two wings who can shoot the three plus the picks are worth it. It would make it tougher for people to zone you guys all of the time.

I hear you about the winner bit, but there a few risks that the Hornets take with this. First Martin won’t be ready for at least 8 weeks. So we’d have to somehow survive for the next two months at least before Secondly, and this is a big deal, the Hornets lose another one of CP’s key guys.

Also, I think you should consider that AK is currently way underrated. Alot of his effectiveness is limited since he can’t really operate in the post now because of your other great 4’s. It will look like we traded a 2 time all star and one of CP’s guys, a corenerstone of our resurgence for a guy who hasn’t played up to his ability (this isn’t true, but I think it’s the way it is perceived).
