LET'S PLAY UTAH JAZZ GM
I've been doing the math in my head and playing out scenarios, but if you were Jazz GM Kevin O'Connor, what would you do about the logjam at the wing position with Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver, Wesley Matthews, and CJ Miles? The easy answer is just to keep all four and let things wait out, but here is why that isn't likely:
1. One or two of those guys are going to have their feelings hurt. Each one of them deserves at least 10-15 minutes of playing time a game and that won't be possible when the team is fully healthy. Potential chemistry issues could arise.
2. The bigger reason is that the Jazz will be having $1.2-11 million sitting on the bench doing nothing other than cheering. The Jazz probably can't afford to do that.
So here are your options:
a. Waive Wesley Matthews before his contract becomes fully guaranteed
b. Trade either Brewer, Korver, or Miles for a second round draft pick or cash considerations to a team that can absorb the contract and not have to give a player back in return.
I'm interested to see what you all will say.

I dunno
I think you could actively shop any of the three and see which one gets the most nibbles, and if the deal is right then pull the trigger and keep Matthews around for insurance. Otherwise, given our injury history, I’d just keep them all and play the hot hand.
Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?
Given our coaching history
what makes you think he’ll turn to the hot hand?
Sorry, sorry… I’ll stop being so negative.
I think we trade one of them… and Brewer & Korver are the 2 most likely, due to expiring contracts. Provided, of course, that Korver ever plays…

The Obvious Choice
is to waive Wesley Matthews. His contract (and cap space) comes off the books, and there’s no need to play the trade market.
the best thing about that is
he’ll be like mo williams, we’ll let another good player walk to be a jazz killer with another team

True, but he's young, so we don't really need him...
(note: I’m not serious)

for me
choice #1, waive wesley matthews, should be the LAST option. i have absolutely no idea which of the rest is the best option though.
Miles
Get rid of Miles. He is on the books longer than the rest. Korver is gone at the end of the season, or his contract is gone at the end of the season. Brewer is our best wing defender. Matthews is the fresh blood we need. I say you trade Miles for a 2nd round and cash to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Waive Matthews is the WORST answer.
After watching him the last seven games, not only do I think he should be starting the rest of the season, I am now no longer hoping for a Boozer for a shooting guard trade. Yes, he is that good. He is our best man2man defender since a health Harpring, and the best 2 defender since Bell.
Strong words. Don't know if I completely agree, but love the strong stance.
But what would I expect? You were just being frank. Rimshot!

I guess if you press me, here's the order in which I want to keep the guys:
Brewer
Matthews
CJ
Korver
Having Matthews that high is a recent decision, but it seems like the right decision. Why won’t CJ play with the urgency of Matthews? The best word I can think of to describe CJs play is “Entitlement” when I’d rather he play with urgency.
I'll make it coach.
I have a suggestion
Kobe Bryant will be a free agent if he doesn’t sign an extension by the end of the season.
Maybe the Jazz can clear some cap room?

Sadly the Jazz won't be able to clear enough cap space for Kobe's inflated contract and ego. Good idea though.

And that is saying a lot
what with Booze’s inflated contract ego coming off the books..
Korver
I think Korver is gone at year end no matter what. He is paid the most of the four, has hit his peak as far as potential goes, and really does nothing more than shoot . If I were KOC I would already be shopping him. But KOC is still KOC and Korver has played like 15 minutes all year so that is easier said than done.
The caveat is if he likes it enough in Utah to sign an extension at more like 3-4 million a year. He's a big fan draw and a feared shooter, which is almost as good as a good shooter sometimes.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
When he shoots... who fears more
the opponents? Or Jazz fans?
