Monday Night Open Thread
Lots of games with playoff implications tonight for the Jazz:
Hawks are bigger than Hornets, right?
Don't really care who wins this one, just beat the hell out of each other.
LAKERS @ BLAZERS
Go La... Sorry, I just can't type those words.

This is a win night for us
Hornets losing would be a plus, but we don’t expect it. Rockets losing would be phenomenal. Nuggets losing would be just as great. And we’re pretty sure LA is going to win, considering Kobe said on national TV that he’s looking forward to it since he hasn’t won there in 4 years.
Well well welll, Who will arrive and lend us an additional hand tonight?
The Hawks, naw CP3 alone is better then their entire team.
The Lakers do us no harm if they win and contribute a teaspoon in our bucket if they do.
I think Enver has jumped the shark this season, might as well enjoy the sinking of the stinking corpse.
Tonight is going to turn out to be fantastic for us.

Chris Paul had a pretty pedestrian night.
24 points and 10 assists, but 6 big turnovers. He got quite a bit of points but had a very small impact on the game.

Way to go Atlanta!
Hopefully they got their one good game out of their system before we come to town.
houston or denver?
which is more important right now, trying to get the 3 seed or a bigger lead as division leader? i can’t decide.
I'll take the seeding
I don’t want to be in LA’s bracket. Plus, I want Home Court

I think it's a win-win situation.
Houston losing would give us the 3rd seed outright right now, but Houston has a more difficult schedule than Denver, so if Houston wins, then they might have more opportunities in the future for losses.

have you guys read about the d-league's playoff format?
the top four seeds get to pick their opponent. awesome. and will never happen in the nba.
My first thought was that it is a fantastic idea. One of the best in playoff formats ever.
Then my second thought was that it would take a new commisioner of the NBA before playoff seeding ever got changed.

Didn't it get changed when the conferences split into three divisions?
For example, the third division leader automatically gets the 4 seed somehow?

the rule is
that any of the three division winner can get no worse than a number 4 seed. However, this is only used to determine matchups, not home court advantage. If another team has a better win-loss record than a division winner, that team would have home court advantage in a potential matchup with that division winner. This happened to us two years ago, when we received the fourth seed as a division winner, but Houston had home court advantage by virtue of a better record (though not better than division winner San Antonio’s).
Even that change didn’t come until after years of screwy, unfair matchups.
But I would be thrilled to adopt this idea. The three division winners, plus the team with the next best record, would select their preferred opponent from the other four playoff teams — first seed would get first pick obviously.
Then again, this would almost surely eliminate the possibility of first-round upsets, especially in the 1-8 matchups. Do you think Dallas would have chosen to play Golden State, a team uniquely suited to beat them, even though they had the worst record? Surely not.
It’s a nice idea, but I think it would have little effect in the long run. Unless you had a re-draft after the second round as well. So, in the event the 1 seed beat the 8, and the 7 seed beat the 2, the 1 could select the 7 to play next, rather than the usual 4/5 winner. THEN we’d be getting some interesting strategy. But even then… by the conference finals, it wouldn’t matter.
Unless the conference seeding structure is ever thrown out. But that ain’t gonna happen ANY time soon. Which is a shame, as unworthy Eastern teams have been getting in for years and years.
Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?
So, the Nuggets suck now?
What happened there? They’re getting blow out at home. It’s a long ways from over, but they’re 3-7 in their last 10 and not showing any signs of getting things going.
Wow
50+ minutes for 4 players? It’s not like they have a week off.

can someone get tape of this
to Jerry and the boys, and lock them in a room with it and strap them down Clockwork-Orange-style and force them to figure out how they are doing it? (and to study Portland as well, we haven’t seen the last of them, unfortunately.)
Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?
david stern and the nba?
giving teams access to tapes that could potentially tell them how to beat the lakers? you kid me not.
I am reading Clockwork Orange as we speak. Weird.

kobe has taken over 1/3 of the lakers' shots
and kobe + pau account for 75% of the lakers’ shots
and the blazers are up by 30
AND A FIGHT BREAKS OUT IN THE BLAZER-LAKER GAME!
Great drama.

WTF is up with the lakers...
Did they push the self destruct button?

Rudy Fernandez is totally laying on the ground and they might carry him out on a stretcher.
He is fine. He is moving all over and alert. It looks to be for precaution and dramatic effect.

dude, he's spending the night at the hospital as a precaution
you really think he’s doing it for dramatic effect? He is indeed reportedly ok, but there is a huge difference between precaution and dramatic effect.
It was both, but I didn't say it was Rudy Fernandez' fault. He didn't ask to be carried out on a stretcher.
But as a healthcare professional, I can say that that situation did not garner a need for a stretcher. He was hit in the head and then landed on his side. He was alert and responsive, had movement in his extremities and neck and head. So the blow to the head was the only way for a neck/head injury. It is the NBA’s and the team doctor’s call, but they have the money to take all precautions. It was precautionary and I agree with precautions, but a stretcher was over the top and unnecessary. It is like taking everyone who is in a fender bender to the hospital on a stretcher for precautionary reasons. I am sure more people would do so if they had an extra $1500 to spend. But Rudy will hopefully be back soon. If anything keeps him out long term, it won’t be due to his neck or head, but his labrum in his shoulder that looked like it took an awkward fall. Hopefully he is okay. But Rudy didn’t need a stretcher and Paul Pierce didn’t need a fireman’s carry or a wheelchair. If you don’t think the NBA likes some dramatic effect, you should watch some team introductions sometime.

I was laughing my ass off when Pierce was taken out on the wheelchair.
It was just Doc Rivers calling back the old Celtics-Lakers rivalry of the ‘80s when they did the same thing with Bird. They had him on the bike on the sideline. Rivers was just playing the mental game and it worked. Then he did the same thing with Rondo the next night and it was like ’Come on now, it can’t work again.’ And to top it off he tried it with Perkins in the next game, except that one turned out to be an actual injury.
