Today is the one-year anniversary…

...of the day that I signed up for SLC Dunk (I’m not exactly sure what SLC Dunk’s founding date is so I have to go with my sign-up date).

The first time I ever came across a sbnation site was during the '07 Playoffs.  As I read through a couple of posts and scrolled through a game thread on "Golden State of Mind," my craving for a Jazz site like GSoM increased, second by second.

Before SLC Dunk, there were maybe only one or two places to go for Jazz discussion.  Without naming names, these sites were places where intelligence and rational thinking were (and are) avoided like the plague, and every opinion-based post is barraged with "Your an idiot, and you’re mother’s an idiot" responses (lest anyone think I’m an idiot, the typos were intentional).  I’m not sure which is worse—reading a site filled with other teams’ trolls, or reading a site filled with your own team's trolls.

Anyway, this site and its smart, funny, non-trolly members have been a godsend to me, and I’m sorry if I’m personally responsible for such a high percentage of the allotted bandwidth usage, if indeed there is a limit (I just can’t help logging on 100 times a day).  So in short, this has just been a long-winded way for me to express my super super appreciation to BBJ for providing this space for Jazz fans.

All comments are the opinion of the commenter and not necessarily that of SLC Dunk or SB Nation.

I agree, it's great

There were a few good sites before, biased fan, BBJ and utahjazzblognet come to mind, but since BBJ joined SBNation it’s a lot more centralised and has brought a lot more to the table.

I’ve also really enjoyed going over some of the old posts at the basketball john site recently, brings back some great memories!

ah, utahjazzblog.net

my old stomping grounds. Here’s better, though. Although I wish I still had access to stuff I wrote over there. Oh wait, the Wayback Machine. YAY. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://utahjazzblog.net

Anyway, we’re all glad you’re here, moni pony. (I just invented that nickname for you. Don’t worry, it’s a one-time thing.)

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

i randomly clicked into a post

and the first line on the page said

I hate all of this talk. I hate to think that AK will be wearing another uniform going into next season

and i was momentarily confused, thinking, “i never posted at utahjazzblog.net, did i?” haha..i’ve posted the exact same thing verbatim so many times.

Agreed.

This place is awesome. Before I found this place the only blogs I knew about were jazzbots and harpringsucks…This place is a lot better than jazzbots and I’m pretty sure harpringsucks is no longer around. Thanks Basketball John.

Oh yeah...and I've been on SBN for over three years...

It seemed to take forever for them to finally get a Jazz blog.

Thanks BBJ

He was warm in his welcome after my first post.

My wife does not thank you, fyi. Especially these last couple of weeks.

I'll make it coach.

Thanks everyone

I’ve been gone all day and totally forgot about today. This is indeed the first anniversary of SLCDunk. I was going to put something up. Thanks Moni.

I’ve been blogging for over two years total. The old site, basketballjohn.com was started in March 2007. The site before that was http://basketballjohn.blogspot.com. Yikes.

So that’s about 2 years longer than I thought I would last.

This is the best place because of the people here. Thanks for coming back.

I’ll get something up later tonight when I don’t have to type from my cell phone.
