Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

Meanwhile, Millsap's representative has set the starting salary he will seek at equal to — if not more than — the sort of money New York Knicks soon-to-be restricted free agent David Lee's camp might attempt to command.

That, suggest both multiple agents and a New York Newsday report, would be a multi-year deal beginning at $10 million per season.

Wow!

$10 mill per is more than I would list him as. I would put him more at the $8 mill range.

Other things.

1- NJ wants (needs?) a PF, but they don’t want a $10-$12 million/year guy. So that takes them out of the running for Boozer as well. (Unless they, and Detroit, and others are just bluffing right now to keep his price from shooting up… and are mentioning that to him)

2- The Jazz & Okur are way far apart, despite him offering them a “hometown discount” of sorts… of $3-$5 million. This means he’ll probably opt out and look at the offers he gets on the market.

3- The Jazz roster on July 1st, assuming everyone opts out, will be…
PG- Deron, Maynor (rookie contract still to be signed)
SG- Brewer
SF- CJ, Harpring
PF- AK
C- Koufos, Fesenko, (Suton?)

That puts the team needs at pretty much everything as we enter FA.

could the suns

… be in the carlos boozer hunt? if wallace retires and they are more than likely buying out sasha, then would they want boozer. i know the talk has been pistons and maybe the nets, but after the shaq trade could the suns be in the hunt?

and that lineup isn’t going to do much. my guess is they keep kk and okur. millsap and boozer will be interesting. if millsap really thinks he is a $10 mill man then that will get the Jazz thinking twice about matching or resigning him. and i can’t believe millsap’s agent is comparing him to elton brand. brand has earned his fat check by being an all-star. now granted i think brand is overpaid but that’s not an accurate comparison.

these next few days will be very interesting. and with nothing going on in the sports world right now, my patience is running thin. i need something to happen to feed my basketball addiction.

If Okur opt out, we will end up getting him for a cheaper rate.

This is not the year to big looking for big contracts. If he really thinks he is worth more, wait a year when everyone is looking to spend the money they saved for Lebron and Wade, and then didn’t get them. Analysis: Okur’s agent is bluffing.

Millsap for 10 mill, won’t happen either. Note to the agent (Millsap’s uncle) don’t compare your client to what most consider is one of the most crippling contract out there right now. Look for Millsap to get signed for about 8 mill, if Boozer opt out. If Boozer doesn’t, and the Jazz can’t resign him (no they won’t), look for him to go for closer to 6 or 7 …. just above the mid-level exeption…. or look for him to sign with a contender where he could start for the MLE.

It looks like the Jazz are hoping Boozer opts in and they can re-sign Millsap and Okur both.

Also, the Jazz are going to try to sign Millsap before he gets any offers from other teams. My guess, is that the Jazz will offer him either 5 years and $40 million, or 4 years and $40 million. It will be fun to see.

The question is

if you pay him that much, do you have to make him a starter?
And if you do… does he have the stamina to start all season?

I love Millsap but..........

10 mil per season is too much…. especially if he’s not going to be a starter….

I’d love to see him back, but maybe for something more like 6 or 7 mil per season…

Agreed completely

I just don’t know if he’ll accept that.
You know some team out there will give him a huge offer, and it’ll be interesting to see what the Jazz do.
