If neither the Pistons nor Jazz offered Boozer a contract, he might be forced to take the mid-level exception from a team -- a drastic $7 million pay cut for Boozer next season.
That, according to sources, is what is keeping Boozer up at night. If he opts out, he's taking a huge gamble ... one that few GMs expect him to take.
"As soon as it looked like the Pistons were the only team with the money and desire to pay him," one Eastern Conference GM said, "I knew Boozer would be changing his mind. Unless I knew for sure that the Pistons would pay me big bucks, you just can't make that gamble. I fully expect him to be back with the Jazz next year."

That is not the best news i have heard all day
in fact, it might make me sad….I was so hoping he would opt out and the Jazz would be able to do a sign and trade for someone decent…
Until you win the big one, you are the Eternal Loser!
I'm still holding out hope
that he remembers what he said back in December and opts out.
“I’m opting out. No matter what, I’m going to get a raise regardless,”

He's gone back on his word before
Maybe the Jazz could hold him to some verbal contract?

if he opts in...
can we trade him? what’s the rule on that? or do we have to wait ’til the season starts. if he opts in i say we trade his a$$ and get someone solid.
i love the irony of it all, though.
boozer would have very good trade value
as an expiring contract.
i hope the front office has a plan.

I'm not standing on the ledge yet.
I would rather have Boozer at 12.7 mil (for one year) than Millsap at 10 mil for multiple years—not that I think the Jazz would give him that much. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise as it will force the Jazz not to overpay Millsap. Don’t get me wrong, I love what ‘Sap gives us, I just don’t think he’s worth what his uncle/agent wants.
And as much as the past year’s drama has irked us all, I can’t see next year going the same way with Booze, since there will be no opt-in/opt-out talk, just hard play for him to try to earn his next contract.
I wonder if all the talk about Booze not opting out will cause Memo to not opt out as well, knowing the Jazz may not be able to pony up what he’ll demand.
Also, things could be worse, we could be in Houston.
