The Downbeat - 30 June 2009 - I'm going to opt out, regardless

  1. Should Boozer decide to opt-in and stay with the Jazz, it almost certainly will end the Jazz career of Memo and/or Millsap. There's no way the Jazz can pay the luxury tax of an estimated $15 million. That's AK's contract. If Boozer does stay with the Jazz, will fans hate him all year long because Millsap is gone?
  2. Boozer and Memo have tough decisions. You know who's sleeping pretty soundly right now? AK. He will make over $16 million next season, and almost $18M in the final year of his deal. He'll only be 30 when it's over and should be able to get a pretty good-sized contract at that point. Not max of course, but he'll be in a good spot. And don't forget his good looking family.
  3. Now that Korver is staying, I can go forward with one of my t-shirt ideas. I'll have to get it out quickly in case he gets traded.
  4. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE...
  5. Goran Suton has both ears pierced? I'm guessing he didn't wear those in his interview. Sloan must have crapped his pants when Suton came into the building for the press conference. http://tinyurl.com/knj2we

1- Yes.
2- AK’s the only one. We’re all totally worried.
3- Yeah, you better speed it up. If you make it pink, it’ll be a lot more successful…
4- No, actually there isn’t.
5- That’s awesome. j-slow’s probably wondering why he endorsed the pick.

i'm going through my pictures

2. Cue footage of Fleischer driving down the freeway singing along to “Free Fallin” at the top of his lungs.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

1. Unquestionably. That dude will be horribly, horribly unpopular. He already is and Millsap is still here. It’s going to get ugly.

2. It’s still not the absolute worst thing in the world to lose both Memo and Millsap, because that will give AK minutes at the 4, when he’s not playing the 3. Although, the more he plays the 4, the more I wish we would have taken Sam Young or another wing. Got too many big young bodies. I mean, we have The Koof. What more could you ask for?

3. I’m curious about this T-shirt idea. I like T-shirts.

4. Oh good.

5. It’s a hip-hop world, kids. Keep up or get out the way.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

... oh.

not until now. Now I’m sad. (If that was a Billy Mays reference.)

Now that I get it

UtesFan’s “No there isn’t” seems cruel.

I'll make it coach.

Boozer would be a fool to opt out

Unless he knows about some bluffing team with an under the table verbal agreement…. ha ha…

There appears to be no market for him.

One way to get the raise he expects is to take the same amount of money stay injured for more games, that way his hourly rate goes way up.

I don’t think we can thrive without Memo. The shame of losing Millsap in this situation is if we got nothing for him.

It looks like the worst case scenario. Why didn’t management pre-empt this possibility somehow? I swear, we have the most “Don’t worry things will work out for the best” front office ever. They are reactive instead of pro-active.

I don’t think I “got” #4.

I'll make it coach.

Hell of a lot of truth to this. I mean, I can understand, LHM just died, Greg probably doesn’t want to rock the boat so soon, or make any drastic moves that might alter the fortunes of the franchise. But we’ve always been this way. In the Stockton and Malone days, it didn’t bother me. It’s starting to bother me more now. Continuity is only an asset when you have players you can rely on.

The Boozer deal and trading up to get DWill were total surprises

because they were totally out of character for our managers. But, you’ll notice, they were great ideas. So why not more of that kind of bold action. Let’s work some trades and get some big names. We are the scrawny, acned nice guy at the dance, only asking the medium-pretties to dance, when everybody knows hot girls won’t say no. Where’s our courage? Do you think we’re efforting Paul Pierce next summer? orD-Wade? Or Yao? Or Roy? “No, those guys would never dance with me,” says mgmt. “I’ll muster the courage to go ask Brian Cardinal…I’ll brag to all my pals (who are dancing with hot girls) about his toughness and how he was a real steal, how he slipped under the radar just standing over by the punch bowl talking to nobody – WHAT LUCK!…”

I’m tired of the “toughness” picks. Let’s go out there and get somebody who’s sexy – and I don’t mean Korver.

I'll make it coach.

lol

that metaphor needs its own post. “Why The Jazz Need To Stop Chasing The Modestly-Hot Girls.”

I've been sitting here reloading the pages waiting for booze to opt one way or the other

Now I must go back to my human life for a while. I’ll stop back later, and maybe write up a post.

I'll make it coach.

Downbeat

1. Boozer is already on everyone’s hate list. Try this on for size (as discussed yesterday by Kevin and Monson on 1280thezone). Jazz can’t resign Millsap (OKC is reportedly willing to sign him to a 10 mil+ offer sheet, over 5 to 6 years, too much!) or Memo (Memo has even claimed he has offer overseas that will pay him more than the Jazz could pay, although I doubt he would do it). Jazz have gaping holes in the frontcourt, and have to rely heaviliy on our young talent. Booze will pull a hangnail and be out half of the season. We end up in the lottery with our own plus NY’s picks. We parlay that into a possible top 5 pick next year, plus get cap space when Carlos’s contract (along with KK and Matty) comes off the books. We might even be a player in next year’s FA market. Okay … wishful thinking. Booze’s not opting out will screw us.
2. AK has enough cash to pay people to say he’s goog looking.
3. The old school Jazz purple is pretty, too—almost as pretty as KK.
4. RIP—I’m sure I contributed to his gold-inlaid coffin with the gallons of Oxyclean my wife goes through each week.
5. Here’s to someone pulling our draft picks aside early on and teaching them how to stay out of the doghouse. By the way, just when you thought Ronnie Price was out of JSlow’s pound, Philly announced (RealGM) they will make a push for him if they can’t resign Andre Miller. We may just have fewer than 10 players under contract going into the Free Agency period.
