He also said "I do"

(low blow)

I'll make it coach.

for that matter

didn’t he also file for divorce and is now taking it back, since they’re trying to reconcile?

David Locke was gloating yesterday that his sources said that Miller never told Boozer he wasn't in the long term plans.

But according to Boozer, the conversation happened. I wonder who is telling the truth and who isn’t?

if boozer's camp

did indeed float that story, then of course boozer will continue to maintain that the conversation happened.

that’s not to say that i believe locke’s gloating, since all of his sources/scouts/interviewees invariably agree with him.

So that gives us three point guards right?

I guess Kruger’s not making the team.

by Patrick517 on Jul 14, 2009 3:17 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like kev too

best is his familiarity with the playbook and ability to make a three when no one is defending him . . . but i just don’t think he is athletic enough to help us on the NBA level. it’s not a dis, it’s just the way it is. he’s not going to be able to stay with derek rose and chris paul . . . maynor and price may be more capable in my opinion.

You're probably right on all counts

but he played his butt off in summer league.

by Patrick517 on Jul 14, 2009 5:26 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

oh yeah, I completely agree

he did EVERYTHING right, he should get a chance in training camp with us, or with some other club.

Look...

I hate Boozer and his 1/3 season work ethic as much as the next Jazz fan, but anyone that thinks that matching this Milsap offer and trading Booz away is a good idea is dilusional. I’d love it if Paul was the player that Boozer is… I would, but bottom line is that PM just isn’t. He’s not worth that contract. Period. I say let Portland have Milsap… a bit of a blow initially (losing a solid worker and back up like Milsap), but we’re almost free of AK’s lame duck contract… let’s not be hasty about hanging another albatros around the organizations collective neck. Give Portland an expensive undersized backup PF. Aldridge is still their #1. Call that bluff. We keep Booz for 2009, who is incentivized by his pride to play well (he desperately wants to be part of the free agent 2010 frenzy… trust me), and then we’ll have some cap room come 2010 to get a decent PF. Paying top dollar for Milsap is a joke in a poor economy where the cap is shrinking.

That’s my 2 cents.

by boomgoesthedynamite on Jul 14, 2009 3:04 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

He should've been

wanting to play better last season so that he could be a FA before 2010, where he’ll just be an afterthought to guys like LBJ, Wade, Bosh, etc.

I don’t mind Booze on the team when healthy, but there are enough health questions to make it questionable.

Totally...

agree UtesFan… totally agree. Still, we CAN see the end of this tunnel. Do we want to step into another that is mostly unknown at this point? Because the Paul Milsap tunnel is long and expensive (thanks Portland).

Boomgoesthedynamite, here is a trivia question:

Here are statistics for two players from their starts during their third season in the league. Ready?

Player A:

Mins Pts Rebs (o-rebs) asts blks fg% ft%

34.7 17.8 9 (2.8) 2.8 0.5 52 70

Player B:

Mins Pts Rebs (o-rebs) asts blks fg% ft%

34.4 15.9 10.3 (4) 2.4 1.0 54 70

Which one is Paul Millsap and which one is Boozer? And does it matter? They are pretty similar. In fact the only difference between Boozer and Millsap after their third season is that Boozer was a starter and Millsap was a backup.

So explain to me why signing Boozer to a 5 year $55 million deal or whatever, is worth the money and Millsap is not worth the money at 4 years and $32 million? Production is production is production. Millsap has already shown that he can produce as well as Boozer could when they were the same age. And Millsap is like 40% cheaper than Boozer was/is.

Oh, and Millsap is player B.

The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.

by clarkpojo on Jul 14, 2009 7:31 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

that's a great point

all this time all we hear is that millsap isn’t as good a player as boozer (offensively at least), but we should really be focusing more on actual production rather than talent.

by moni on Jul 14, 2009 7:38 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree clark...

Milsap isn’t a bad player, but he can’t bang low over time. He doesn’t have the size at that position. All I’m just saying is that I’d rather have Boozer one more year (even if he sucks) and have options in a huge free agency year, then get forced into matching an inflated contract for an undersized PF and be stuck with a crummy team over the next 5 years. I love me some Paul Milsap, and I would want him on ANY team I cheer for, but at this contract level, for his size… it’s just not worth it. With someone Paul’s size, at that position, he needs a bigger body of work to see how he holds up against real big men before I start signing checks.

Besides, you can’t compare those contracts apples to apples. This is a VERY different economic climate then it was when Booz got his contract.

by boomgoesthedynamite on Jul 15, 2009 9:58 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

There is a little voice in me

that totally agrees with you. Everytime I look at the contract Portland offered, I get a sinking feeling that we may have seen the ceiling for Millsap already this past season. If that’s the case, we just signed another PF that is too undersized to defend, and we just secured both him and a center that doesn’t play defense for another 3-4 seasons.

Looking around the league, that sinking feeling is growing in my stomach. Look at what other teams are paying out there:

Brandon Bass (signed as a backup undersized PF) – $18M for 4 years
Marcin Gortat (signed as backup C) – $34M for 5 years
Paul Millsap (signed as a starter/backup undersized PF) – $34M for 4 years

Maybe we should consider paying that 1 year, $12M lease on a certain C. Boozer.

At least we aren't the Cavs.

Varejao got $10 million a year.

boom

I’ve had those same thoughts, too. But then I read this quote in deseretnews, and as far as I’m concerned this is the #1 reason to re-sign Millsap…

“Hopefully we can keep him here, because I want him here with me,” he said.

That was from Mr. Deron Williams, and if I’m KOC, I say “Yes SIr.”

I personally was warming up to the David Lee idea. I was thinking that Boozer would make NYC better, and he probably will, but I don’t see him making a huge difference there. He and David Lee had comparable stats last year, and I don’t think Lee has as much durability questions.

However, I see the Jazz trading boozer for a scorer, and re-signing Millsap as a starter.

Many Thanks

to Boozer for deflating what little leverage the Jazz had left. KOC had played things as well as he could, trying to posture to other GM’s we were in no rush to trade Carlos. [Insert whining cat sound] Thanks, Carlos, for letting that out of the bag.

That's what

Booze does best.

Seriously, does he even know the meaning of loyalty? Or is he only loyal to the team.
There is something known as too much loyalty (aka, the Jazz & Flop). On the other end of that spectrum lies the Booze.

for someone who’s so good at saying what people want to hear (“i’ll be back in two weeks”), he’s simultaneous incredible at sticking it in his mouth. he seriously needs to just shut up.

Ask Gordon Gund

if Boozer has any loyalty.

Brock...

I know, and in a perfect world where Milsap turns out to be a viable starter, that’s a great solution. But he can’t bang low with the likes of Shaq, Howard, or even Gasol for a 7 game series and come out ready to play another. He’s just not big enough. Okur, being an untraditional C needs help down there, and Milsap doesn’t have the size. Do we really wanna lock that in at this price? I don’t. I know D-Will is the franchise player, but this is a key moment in the Jazz’s franchise… I really feel like we’re gonna blow it by signing him. I’d rather have one more subpar year (which if Booz, Okur, AK, and Williams play up, a potentially great year) with an expiring all-star PF contract then 4 more seasons of cap scraping and inability to compete because we were hasty about resigning Milsap. I’m not saying that Paul can’t do it… he may blow the doors off in the next few years, but I don’t think he’s proven that he’s ready to put a franchise on his back at that position.

I tell you what would make everything better… if AK took a voluntary pay cut. Then again, it would also make things better if I had a pony that crapped golden eggs… and that’s probably a more likely scenario.

This off season is getting ugly.

i could use one of those ponies

And Greg Miller will need two or three when he matches Portland’s offer sheet. You know that pukey feeling we all talk about when AK jacks up a 3? I’m starting to feel that way. We’re just stuck on two fronts. I wonder how pissed KOC is at Prick-ard and Booze right now.

you would what would make everything better?

if boozer refunded his salary this year to the jazz for games missed

by moni on Jul 15, 2009 5:47 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

That wouldn’t make me feel any better, unless he’s dividing up that money and distributing to the fans who thought the Jazz were serious title contenders.

well

dwill also said last summer that he wants cj back “in the worst way.” and then the jazz went out and matched for him. not the greatest move imo.

Good point

Dwill would probably like to take a mulligan on that one.
