Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

The Downbeat - 6 July 2009 - The BBJ is on Vacation Edition

  1. We all know about Karl's offensive records, and we all know that Stock is the all-time leader in steals. But did you know that Karl is ranked 10th all-time in steals (9th when he retired; Jason Kidd has since surpassed him)? Does that make you miss him: a) more; b) less; c) the same; d) I don't miss him; e) Who? I'm really young.
  2. Do players get T'd up/fined/suspended for punching their own teammate? What happens the first time the Lickers play the Blazers next season, and the following ensues: 1) Ron Ron yells that he'll take Roy because Kobe's not good enough to guard him; 2) Kobe [attempts to] deck(s) Ron Ron; 3) Ron Ron drags Kobe into the stands, pours beer on him, and takes him out; 4) Vanessa screams obscenities while swinging her purse at Ron Ron's head (and J-Slo, who's at home, grabs a notepad to jot down all these new words he's never heard before)?
  3. If you could pick any Jazz player (or coach) to be your BFF, who would it be and why?
  4. A little insight into what makes AK, AK: http://www.powerinyou.org/ambassadors/focus.html?ambassador=38
  5. I hereby order, I mean, ask everyone nicely to log in and comment more. I realize that it's a holiday over there in the US of A, but I'm left crestfallen and full of despair when I hit refresh (every five minutes) and there are no new comments, anywhere.

Good Job!

1. A (32>5)

2. 4 (hahahah)

3. KK (duh)

4. Sorry, it’s too early in the morning for me to read anything

5. Seriously, get a Twitter. We all talk to each other on there a lot.

Well done!

1- I still hate him for going to the Lakers. If he was smart, he would’ve joined the Pistons…

2- 3 or 4… I could live with either one. And I don’t think they get T’d up for attacking teammates.

3- No idea. Though I’m sure we could guess who it wouldn’t be.

4- I’m with Danielle. Too early.

5- Agreed with Danielle again. Get twitter. There isn’t much to post here because the Jazz don’t do very much during the off-season. If more happened, there would be more to comment on.

Downbeat

1. A. “Don’t know what you got, till it’s gone” … compliments of the band Cinderella.
2. No idea, but if we find out no technical ensues, I advocate that Deron punch Carlos in the nose next time he attempts his yell defense. Or better, maybe Fes could do the punching. I’d like to see him shake some of the goofiness and get mean.
3. Ronnie B. if only for the free chocolate milk.
4. Although I hate that Andrei doesn’t have that killer instinct that so many great athletes have, you can understand where he’s coming from. He has risen from rags to riches, due to his hard work. Now he’s comfortable … and he has a good-looking family. Again, although we hate his seemingly lax attitude at times, can we really blame him?
5. I’m a SLCdunk rookie, so I can’t make any demands of anyone, but this is the worst sports time of the year. The more posts the merrier.

Downbeat or Beatdown?

1. c, i have moved on from malone. as soon as he put on the purple and gold i moved on. but i do miss his defense and toughness

2.i hope not. i hope for all the above

3. memo – to see if he really does just wake up before each game (like he appears)

4. interesting read. he obviously doesn’t have that same fire, but very interesting.

5. i am about as reliable posting as boozer is suiting up and playing.

Down to the Beat!

1. To be honest I didn’t care..I was a Bulls fan(WAIT! wait! Don’t ban me! It was not my fault I was young and naive).

2. T’d up? Doubtfull. Fined/Suspended? Definite.

3. Briggs……Yeah, definitely Briggs.

4. As much as I want to hate AK sometimes. I just can’t bring my self to do it. I love that gangly Russian and his adorably voice.

5. You to huh? Well I’m doing my part by finally revealing myself from the shadows.

5. twitter dood . . . we’re like on twitter every day/night.

1. I miss Karl a lot. Didn’t know that about his steals, but he was an underrated defender, for sure.

2. I hope it plays out exactly as you have said.

3. Um, The Koof, of course.

5. It’s true, I can barely keep up with AllThatJazz/UtesFan/etc. on the Tweetness. But I refresh this site like crazy too, especially when I’m at work. Maybe I ought to write more FanPosts.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

I was under the impression that you already were BFF with The Koof

1. a)more

3. D-Will (his wife is uber hot)

4. Stories like this are why I can’t get behind AK47 trade proposals.

5. It’s tough for us Dunk addicts during the off-season but the weather’s great!

The DB

1. I miss him a lot but I miss Hornacek more. We have our PG and a pretty good PF when he wants to be….all we have lacked is a killer SG….who can pick up some slack for DWill and Boozer. Who can pass and shoot the rock and play tough man up defense.

2. There goes the Chemistry. This move will prove that you cant just go pick up anyone and make it fit. Kobe is the leader and Artest doesnt listen to anyone. Crash and Burn written all over it.

3. All-Time would be Stock….but currently I would say DWill.

4. Dont feel like reading real stuff.

5. I agree with that…..we need more fan post.

Hope everyone had a happy 4th...

1. Karl never went for the shot block. I have never seen a player, past or present, who was as good at stripping the ball just when his opponent was setting up a shot as Karl was. Boozer is very good offensively, and everyone knows the story about his defense. In order for the Jazz to compete for a championship, the Jazz has to get Karl Malone type defense. Unless Boozer figures it out, and that possibility does not look good, then the Jazz need to go a different direction, which may happen sooner rather than later.

2. I can picture it now….Kobe and Ron Ron going to Toe to toe in stands, and Jack Nicholson gets in the middle of it trying to break the fight up. We all know Ron Ron can’t handle the truth!

3. AK. I need to know what he is thinking after finding out he was on the trading block for a gimpy TMac. Does it light a fire?

4. Good Article. His contract is a burden, but personally I always thought he was a geniune, cool guy. On the court, he has been up and down, which doesn’t justify his contract. Maybe he gets it together this year, stay healthy, and play like he did when he was an All-Star. He is one of the few jazz players that actually help improve the defense. He just has to keep his confidence up.

5. I try to post every so often. I never got into facebook or myspace, but I have recently discovered twitter, and I like it.

karl actually has over 1,000 blocks for his career (1,145)

which may just be by virtue of having played so long, but still…

by moni on Jul 6, 2009 9:54 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

1. D- a handful of those were picked up in purple and gold. Urge to kill rising… rising…
2. Remembering that Ron Artest is in the league is the one reason I hope that Matt Harpring’s knees hold up for another season. That said, until this week, Ron-Ron was becoming one of my favorite players again.
3. AK. I could picture myself discussing Bulgakov and PREVED MEDVED with him for hours, not to mention the hot wife with reasonable but compromised morals.
4. Very cool.
5. Duly noted.

Thanks for posting this Moni.

Great stuff. I guess I’m on this end of things this time, so here it goes:

1. I miss Karl’ work ethic more than anything. I think that’s why people love Millsap so much. It’s a little nostalgic.
2. I’m going to steal brock38’s idea and ask that if we have Jack Nicholson, then we should have a Departed ending for Kobe/Artest.
3. Right now it would have to be Deron. It would be nice to have a friend that might swap you your car for his Maserati.
4. I think AK is my third favorite Jazz player of all time. I hope that he’s traded because of his contract but then re-signs with the Jazz in a couple of years. I think he needs to retire a Jazz man and have his number retired. And really, who can ever wear #47 in Utah again?
5. Hopefully we can bridge the gap between summer league and training camp. The buzz seems to be picking up though and it seems like a trade will happen soon that should give us fodder.

lol @ #2

Kobe would be Matt Damon’s character, Artest would be DiCaprio, Phil Jackson would be Martin Sheen, Jack would be Jack, and the movie would end with Kurt Rambis shooting Kobe as he carries in the groceries.

Uh, do you think you could draw me like a ninja?

in response to 5—i guess there’s always the euro championships, with fess playing for ukraine, ak for russia, and kk2 for greece. is memo playing for turkey?

by moni on Jul 7, 2009 2:03 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

p.s. agreed about #47...

even if andrei’s number doesn’t get retired, no one else should ever get to wear it.
