3 team trade....tyrus thomas, salt lake's newest resident?
Check this out.....Utah Trade

lemme know what ya think, i actually like the deal because i love tyrus thomas and this would open us up to signing milsap long term, also with either korver or okur's contract coming off the books after this year we will be able to make a big splash in next year's free agency, but i also think we'd be competitive this year...just my 2 cents tho

Well
Do we play Thomas at PF to back up Millsap….That would suck to trade Boozer for a bench guy. Especially if we sign Millsap long term. Thomas could play along side Millsap…..man that would be a nice defensive combo. I would almost rather have Kirk Hinrich to start at the 2 guard….
I do love Tyrus Thomas’ game….his TO/AST ratio is not good. But his Blocks and Steals could come in handy….he does really good against the Lakers….that is a plus.

I'm just glad they're doing SOMETHING.
I’d like it better if we could get Heinrich AND Thomas…but I guess we should look at it as “We’re trading Carlos Boozer for Tyrus Thomas and Paul Millsap.” In fact, that’s really what we’re doing.
I'll make it coach.
I thought UT already had a PG. I forget his name.............. Wilson or Wilburton or something like that...

They'd play Hinrich at the 2-guard
j-slow loves doing that with his back-up PGs (Derek Fisher, Ronnie Price, Deron Williams for example).

FWIW
Portland still needs to give up about $1.7 million if it’s just Booze/Hinrich/Thomas

This is an interesting question — is this a convoluted play to bring Hinrich to Portland, or is KP really serious about Millsap as the backup 4?
I have to think he’s earnest in the pursuit, but it’s really not his MO paying attention to the low post. Blazers wasted two years with Channing Frye as the backup 4 and Nate uses Travis Outlaw out of position at the 4 — there ya go. Are the Blazers finally starting to realize that they need big boy paint players to play big boy basketball? Or is this some Rube Goldberg scheme to snag Hinrich while weakening a division rival simultaneously?
No clue.
It will be interesting.

Personally
as a Jazz fan who really doesn’t hear much about what’s going on in Portland (save for the few Blazers bloggers I follow on twitter), I’d assume it’s a weird ploy to try and get Hinrich. If it fails, they still get a good player, so it’s not too bad of an attempt.
But I’m pretty sure the first option would be to land Hinrich.

Does this trade work?
We are trading $12.7 mill for $4.7 mill. Can we do that straight up?
If so, I like it. ’Cause then that does free up money for Millsap.
Also, would Portland do this, knowing that now we have money to throw at Millsap??
It sounds good, but is it a real possibility?
Doesn’t Thomas become a restricted fa next summer?
Now if we can just get someone to take AK’s contract….
If we can do this....
…. and Harpring retires then we are in a good boat. We could throw the midlevel at someone.
Any word on Harpring retiring????
I don't believe this trade at all
The Bulls wouldn’t want Boozer for 1 year, it would have to be a sign and trade, and there is no way they let Ben Gordon and Hinrich leave this offseason. I really think the Blazers are leaking everything possible. They seem to be on the list of destinations for every FA this season (Lee, Millsap, Bass, etc) and are mentioned in multiple trade scenarios. Pritchard is just messing with our minds.

They can clear cap space next year and go after Dwayne Wade, and enjoy Booze's 20/10 in the meantime.
I'll make it coach.
The hole in the theory is that Chicago claims they're not playing the game...
I think their losing Ben Gordon probably reduces the chances somewhat. They might want to hold Hinrich.

That would explain
why they’re seemingly demanding Jerryd Bayless now.

I am a blazer fan and I am loving watching these stories unfold.
Without the blazers there is vertually no way possible to have enough money to match millsaps offer. Ha, there is no team that can take on a contract to clear enough space besides us. It is rumored there could be a signing bonus and everything to prevent Utah to even have a chance to match.Start with the amount of capspace, 7.7 million. Build a 4 year deal with maximum annual raises (8%).
Below is courtesy of douglast and Storyteller:
That works out to be
7,700,000
8,316,000
8,932,000
9,548,000
TOTAL = 34,496,000
This is where they can decide to make up to 17.5% of the total be bonus money instead of salary. Bonus money is paid now, but split evenly over contract life.
Assume 17.5% of 34,496,000 = bonus money total of 6,036,800.
prorated bonus amount is 1,509,200 per year. Cap values don’t change at all – same as above. Cash outlay changes though, so Utah’s cash outlay on this deal is now:
12,227,600
6,806,800
7,422,800
8,038,800
So, they essentially have to spend an extra 4,527,600 in cash THIS year (plus taxes on their payroll). total monies are still 34,496,000, of which 28,459,200 is base, and the 6,036,800 is bonus
So if Utah can’t trade away boozer, they will be atlest 12 millio over the cap plus a huge signing bonus. It’s almost like you loose either way and the blazers win. If Utah doesn’t match then they still be over the cap and have a worse team next year. If they do match then they are WAY over the cap and the ownership will not be happy paying so much for a team that doesn’t look to improve much. While if the blazers can keep him then they can make joel pryzbilla and Outlaw tradeable and attempt to improve their point guard spot through a trade or keep their team and have the deepest bench in the league.
Must be fun being a jazz fan!

OKC could make a trade
I think they actually have more cap space than the Blazers. They’re also pretty weak at the PF position.
OKC is a rebuilding team
They have a lot of young players that they will need paid in a few years. I could see why they would be interested in Milsap, due to his youth, but I don’t think they would want to give a lot of money to Boozer with a new contract. Also, they would not want to rent him for one year, as they are not close to being a contender and adding Boozer for one year might hurt team unity. Plus, last I heard Lee was still available… I could see them going after him and continue to slowly build the team.

Blazer leverage
Yeah..it’s a tough spot to be in. We will HAVE to trade Boozer…
You have to let someone set the market though for Millsap. Jazz shouldn’t of offered a deal first as another team can raise it up.
I think the Blazers are doing this for trade leverage with Boozer…or are getting even for Memphis signing Miles! Why take it out on us! LOL
Tough Spot
It makes the most sense to just trade away Boozer for anything, and try to retain Milsap.
Tyrus Thomas & Tim Thomas might be the best package for Boozer. Plus, save 1.6 mil this year with those cotracts.
I get the feeling that the Jazz don't want to help the Blazers as much as the Blazers don't want to help the Jazz.
The Jazz are probably trying to find another team with cap space to facilitate a similar deal to the Thomas/Hinrich deal, so that they can have the money to match Millsap and keep Portland from getting their man (Hinrich). If they can pull it off, they would turn right back around to Kevin Pritchard and say “screw you.” It would be a “screw you right back” moment.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
The only other real team that could help here is OKC
And I don’t think they’d do it.
Maybe Memphis?

I believe the Hawks and Pistons are also under the cap.
There are reports that the Jazz offered Boozer for Tayshaun Prince and the Pistons declined.
I wonder if the Hawks would be interested in a Boozer for re-signed Marvin Williams.
OKC is supposedly not interested in helping out. And Memphis doesn’t have a need for Boozer anymore, but might be able to help facilitate a deal.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
As much
… as I want this trade to happen, it seems to be a made up rumor. Portland gives up no one and magically gets the guy the have wanted. Someone is blowing a lot of smoke up someones butt.
I don’t get why Portland wouldn’t give up Bayless? Kid is good but I don’t think he’ll be what Hinrich is.
