The Downbeat - 26 January 2010 - #152 - The 4th Place Edition
Why couldn't I have got tickets to last night's game instead of NJ?
Who would have thought that the Jazz would be sitting in 4th this morning a couple of weeks ago? Not many. If you said you did, I think you're lying.
I think Wesley Matthews has surpassed the Shandon Anderson comparisons. No knock on Shandon. Let's hope he stays around for a long time.
My favorite tweet on the game last night,
I'll repeat this from the game thread, does Matthews' play make CJ expendable? Some might say that he's always been expendable.

I was at the game last night...
and it was both awesome and frustrating. I mean, there were two 30 point swings! The Jazz were up 12, down 17, then up again! Overall it was a great game, and here are a couple of observations:
1- In the first half, Deron absolutely owned Dragic and Nash in the paint. On one occasion Deron posted up Dragic on three straight possessions and got layups every time. It’s nice to be reminded about how much more dominant DWill can be over most smaller guards.
2- Nash is a master at running the pick and roll. I’m pretty sure 95% of their plays last night consisted of Nash and one of their bigs running the pick and roll, and 80% of the time it resulted in a dunk, an open 3, or a trip to the foul line.
3- Wes and AK were awesome.
4- I’d much rather have Boozer on the team than Amare. Stoudemire may get more blocks, but overall it looked like Boozer was the better defender. And Boozer has a much better offensive game.

AK awesome; Boozer over Stoudemire
I know this is nothing new, but it is fascinating how attitudes regarding both have evolved in the past couple of months.
Now we’re hearing calls for Okur to be traded. Maybe it’s time for him to step it up and perform like he did last year.
I’ve seen comments that Okur’s and Boozer’s games can’t co-exist. Could this be legit? Are they mutually exclusive in the sense that only one can perform at a high level at a time?

I object to #3! (Although not really that much, because I think I agree that Wes is better)
I love Oh My Sweet Undrafted Wesley Matthews, but I still love Shandon “I now wear skirts, apparently” Anderson above all others. Shandon’s arrival in Utah was immediately followed by two consecutive NBA Finals appearances. So if OMSW’s arrival is also followed by a Finals appearance (or something even better), I will gladly change my screenname to “wesleyfan”.

Cj can go
I want CJ gone. Seriously, 30 seconds into the game he jacked a 3 from the corner, wide open at that and missed everything. He makes me want to put my head through a wall.
Matthews is a stud. His defense, outside shooting, and hussle almost makes him a better start than Ronnie Brewer.
I love AK, I really do. I just wish he didn’t cost so much. Lastnight though made me not even care how much he costs….

Keep them all
In the course of the season guys go on hot and cold streaks. When CJ is hot he is a beast and really puts forth a lot of effort. When hes cold he does didly. If we keep all of them there will be competition and somebody to turn to for boost of energy, offense, defense or whatever is needed.

Can someone with more NBA knowledge help me out?
I want Matthews to stick around because I think he’s capable of being pretty awesome. I don’t know how things work at the end of the year.
Because he was undrafted is he unrestricted? Is someone gonna offer him money at the end of the year that we can’t even match? Just curious.
Thanks.

I believe he's still restricted.
I think Siler wrote something on it but that’s what I remember. Maybe it was clark that found that.

The Sloan/Farm Tweet
out of context — it was in reference to Kosta Koufos on the Flash…
