All NBA
Deron Williams is arguably one of the best ten players in the league, his selection to the all NBA second team confirms that he is one of the top four guards, at least. In short, Dwill's position among the leagues best is something the league recognized this year, and as long as the jazz remain a first rd/sc. rd playoff team, he'll continue to be recognized as one of the best, if not the best, at his position. This is huge for Jazz fans, in this era of free agency, with an exciting new group of great players, to have a player who will probably be connected with the best of his generation when everything is said and done.
Dwill made some comments about the Jazz situation at the end of the year that may've sounded demanding, but seeing how a handful of teams are bending over backwards to accomodate the FA's this summer, FA's are demanding more and more, and the demands of Dwill don't seem out of the ordinary, and they should not be taken lightly. FA's want to be with a team they know are going to do them right, individually and collecitvely, Dwill wants to know the Jazz are going to do it right, so do the fans.
With Dwill. the Jazz have an amazing talent for at least two more years, and I'm sure the suits want to improve the team, as it's the general manager mantra; but the Jazz situation is a little different with some longterm fixtures in place, most notably, the coach. Also, there is the assumption the Jazz market can't support a bloated salary, putting a financial limit on what the Jazz will be willing to spend. How much of this is truth is not relevant if in two years the Jazz aren't serious contenders? If Cleveland doesn't retain Lebron, they'll be one of the worst teams in the league. The Jazz FO will need to make some moves if they want to avoid a similar situation.
I'm sure if Cleveland had the opportunity, they'd talk to Lebron and find out exactly what he wants to stay in Cleveland, but it's too late. On our side, it has been reported that Dwill wants Boozer back. Since Boozer is a free agent, the Jazz could lose him for nothing; but Dwill has also said something along the lines that you can't lose a Boozer and get nothing in return. If I'm Jazz FO, I take this as a directive to either retain booz, or sign and trade him; if the Jazz can't pull this off, and Booz leaves for nothing, it will be considered a setback by Dwill, and the Jazz FO will have failed, him...maybe the damage done by the inability to make a move will be irreprabable.
Undoubtedly, keeping Dwill happy is important, but how much say should he have in the Jazz decisions? The Jazz don't need both Boozer and Millsap. Moving one of them for some value seems to make sense. One thought is that if the Jazz traded Millsap, then lost Boozer to FA for nothing, nothing could be worse. On the other, many feel Millsap is the pwfoward of the future, but does Dwill feel that way? He has said how much he wants Boozer back, and the chemistry between him and Booz is better than he has with Millsap. But, how long will Millsap be content to be Boozers backup? I think the Jazz need to move one of them, my gut feeling is resign boozer and trade Millsap when his value is highest, like now.

All Deron wants is to win basketball games. He hated the Brewer trade, but I think he feels differently now.
He has said that he wants Boozer back, but it isn’t like he’s campaigning for it. It is the right thing to say.
Go read some Jazz stories from last season. Deron Williams was saying that he believed Paul Millsap was a starter in the NBA and didn’t speak really either way about Boozer. Boozer’s good year has changed that a little.
I know Jazz fans see the decision to keep Carlos Boozer or not is strictly a financial decision. If they keep him they are willing to spend and win and if they let him walk then they aren’t serious about winning. But keeping or not keeping Boozer is also just a basketball decision, much like Ronnie Brewer. It is unfathomable for many, but the Jazz might be a better team down the road without Carlos Boozer. You can’t just dismiss that fact
A Sign and Trade might be the best way to show they are willing to spend, while also making an improved team, but the sign and trade options are very small if they exist at all.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
you could put it this way:
if boozer were a complete player that was a crucial part of the team (e.g. if he were dwill), there probably wouldn’t be any discussion. the jazz would do whatever it takes to re-sign him, even if it means entering tax territory. that there are this many questions about his future says something.
To be fair
We don’t know how much the F.O is “questioning” resigning Boozer. They could totally have that mindset and just be playing smoke and mirror games right now.
Just sayin.

They are questioning. they have to be. They were completely prepared to let him go for nothing last offseason.

Why in the hell would you trade millsap?
What and resign the biggest bust in Utah Jazz history? There is no reason to keep Boozer.
Trade Boozer, AK, Kofus, Okur, and maybe even Korver and get a higher draft pick, pick up another big man anything. Boozer and AK are the most overpaid, underachieveing, least hardworking, biggest waste of space on the Jazz right now.
Yeah Millsap has a high value right now, but he is a proven player in the NBA. A higher draft pick is not and won’t be for a few years.
Best case scenario:
Sign and trade Boozer for Bosh, Stoudemire, or another big man. Or trade him and him alone for a higher draft pick so they can pick up Monroe from Georgetown.
Trading Millsap would be a huge mistake. If they wanted to get rid of him they should have let him go last offseason then because they’re not going to get something of equal or better value for him.
Wow. Someone who thinks less of Carlos Boozer's game than I do.
Nice Job Scott.

Boozer
is the biggest bust in Jazz history? Not likely…. They didn’t win a championship and he got sidelined with some questionable injuries but he’s far from a bust….

Wow
More D-will drama.
D-will is a vocal player period. He talks alot and most of the time he is able to control himself. However, throughout his years here there have been times where he lets things slip. Honestly, I think people read too much into it. It usually happens when he is emotional about something.
Stop reading into what D-will says so much in post game interviews.
A sign and trade for Boozer is going to have a very small chance of happening. Most teams will just offer him the 5 year Max or Close to max contracts. They aren’t going to care too much about that 6th year.
Sign and trade for Bosh or Amare? Yea right! When Clippers win 3 championships in a row that’ll happen.
As for losing D-will in 2 years. If that’s what he wants, then that’s what he’s going to do. It doesn’t matter how much you build arounda player, they will still leave if there is more money and a bigger market for them. Look at Lebron and Cleveland. They did EVERYTHING he wanted and now he could end up leaving. That’s the nature of the business.
If D-will decides to leave in 2 years then we’ll be fine. We’ll do what all teams do when that happens, rebuild and find a new star.

I agree
You can do all you can to keep your star happy, but what it boils down to is everyone is looking out for number one. So you can throw all your eggs into the “Keep D_Will” happy basket, it might bite you in the butt in 2 years if he wants out. So what you do is worry about the current roster and competing each year. As long as you stay away from “rebuilding” then most people are happy. It’s when you blow up a team and “rebuild” that is frustrating as a fan and player.
Also, don’t put a lot of stock in what Williams says. Sometimes the questions are loaded to get a comment similar to what he made and sometimes there’s a political game being played. You want to get better and the front office wants to get better. No one wants to get worse, unless there is a Lebron James in the draft.
I agree
You have to keep your star happy…within reason. Improving the team is WELL within reason.
I love Millsap but he is not a better player than Boozer…sorry. Close but no cigar.
DWill needs a Hornacek. He needs a guy he can fall back on. He needs a SG who can handle the rock like when Fisher was here.
We pulled off a great heist when we got Hornacek…..let’s do it again.
Dip in the FA pool….keep Boozer…draft a nice talent….and we should be great!

CJ Miles
Lets be honest. AK is probably going to be coming off the bench as a 6th man. I love him in that role. He can come in as a SF or a PF depending on who we draft/ free agency. So that leaves Miles (maybe Korver) as the starter.
I think I’m ok with that. Miles played alot better (hurts me to say that cause I was so outspoken against him) towards the end of the season/playoffs. If he can continue to attack the hoop and hit outside shots he’s a huge asset because he plays decent defense and his contract isn’t as bad as alot of the Wings putting up his numbers in the nba. (Wow, run on sentence, Sorry)
If anything we should be looking for depth at SG/SF behind Miles and Matthews who are our starters assuming nothing major happens.
Here is my list of SG/SF’s I wouldn’t mind the Jazz grabbing from Free Agency if Korver walks:
Ray Allen- He’s older and is still going to demand a pretty big contract. Great shooter but he’s on the decline. He could single handidly raise our FT% 5 to 8 points though lol.
Tony Allen- Has played amazing defense on Kobe over the course of the finals despite only being 6’4. He’s extremely athletic and only made 2.5 mill. However, he probably is about the same or worse than Matthews on the offensive in.
Lebron James- Enough said. Baha. Joking.
Travis Outlaw- I think his contract is going to come down and he’d be okay coming off the bench.
Quientin Richardson- He’s on the wrong side of 30. However he’s a sauvy vet and has stuff left in the tank. He made 9 mill this year so he’d have to take a huge paycut to play here but if he’d do it, i’d take him.
Peja Stojakovic- He would have to ETO his contract. He’d cost alot of money but if anyone is like Horny it’s Peja. Sweet shot.
Matt Barnes- I think Orlando will let him walk since Pietrus has stepped up. he’s also over thirty. I can’t find how much he is making (not listed?) but I would love his defense and hardnose attitude coming off the bench. He reminds of a Matt Harpring… Likes to get into peoples heads.
Mike Miller- He made 9 million last season too. His game is on the decline but i’ve always liked Mike. He’s going to give you 45% from FG 40% from 3point through a season.
Anyways something like that.
The draft/ Korver are probably the most likely scenerios. I’m ok with that. CJ Miles as the starter isn’t looking too horrible now.

I like
Barnes and Miller….
I hated playing against Barnes…he plays hard and has a good shot.
Miller would make me very happy….dude can shoot the lights out….
Say we get Matt Barnes and Steve Blake….sweet offseason right there….then draft Greg Monroe. Boom we look good!!

ya, cj got better last year, but he’s improvedt the last two years, slowly, at least he’s headed in the right direction and his hard work will eventually pay off, he still needs to work hard to improve in every area of his game, esp rebounding, but he’s making a little bit of his upside a reality, i like his driving ability, mix it in with an improving outside shot, once he rebounds, plays better d, and finds himself in the rythym of the offense, he’s always a huge spark, he will be a better pro when he gets experience in finding exactly when and where he can contribute, this will make him a more reliable pro, and he might even grow a little more physically, but he is maturing slowly.
