Kyle Korver Joins Carlos Boozer In Chicago
ESPN.com sources: Bulls to sign Korver to three-year deal worth estimated $15 million
And just like that, Utah Jazz jersey sales fall 50%.
The writing was on the wall for this one when the Jazz drafted Hayward. The team really didn't seem to have talks with Korver about bringing him back.
The Jazz will already be without one of their consistent outside threats in Mehmet Okur but now lose the all-time record holder in three-point percentage. That's going to hurt a bit. Kyle is a bit one-dimensional, but what he does, he does really well.
That leaves CJ, Deron, and Matthews (hopefully) as our only real outside threats. Does our need suddenly shift to a shooter?
Korver's charity to the community will also be greatly missed. His foundation and the work of his brothers will shift to Chicago I assume.

Judging by the way Hayward has been he might just be that guy
We all knew we weren’t bringing Korver back but we’ll miss him and wish him the best.
we wish him the best of course

And the frustration gets bigger
Something better be happening with these trade exceptions! We are not in any way a better team, then when the season ended.
Toronto and Cleveland are supposedly getting big trade exceptions with Bosh and Lebron, so we better be doing something soon before there’s nothing left.
step back?
More like a leap back to when we desperately needed outside scorers. And now they’re talking about bringing Ronnie Brewer back? WTF are they doing in that front office? Playing pacman?
Yeah overall this is a dissappointing time for Jazz Fans
There’s no getting around it. Until we bring someone IN. The draft pick weirdness, Boozer, Korver – it all gets lumped into one day month of news.
Great
now my wife won’t watch the Jazz with me.
Suddenly all the women in Utah lost interest in the Jazz
Bulls are the new Jazz
Boozer and Korver? Is Brewer next? I wonder if the Bulls know that this combo isn’t going to lead to a championship. I mean, Rose isn’t going to lead these players better than Williams did.
Noah
is way better than anybody the Jazz had defensively. I think you are underestimating how good Noah is. Boozer should flourish next to a defensive center.
by scrantonicity33 on Jul 9, 2010 6:00 PM MDT up reply actions
You're right
I don’t respect Noah. Well, not enough to believe that Noah can defend both Booz’s and his own guy and lead them to a championship. It will be interesting to watch tho. As good as the Bulls look on paper, I am a believer that Booz’s contract will become an obstacle the Bulls can’t get over in two years. I believe that Jazz fans finally get back at the bulls for ’97/ ’98 by letting the bulls have boozer.
Jazz with Deng and Noah
At least they have a C who plays defense, that will probably get them farther than the Jazz have been able to.
oops

This is really creepy
We’ll see what the Jazz could have been if they had a defensive center all this time. Wowsers.
Reading stuff like this does make me wonder what KOC is doing. Really, why are all these other teams making moves, but nothing for the Jazz? Maybe something decent is coming up …
We can hope, I guess.
I got the crap beat out of me in Provo one time
Yep
Someone needs to check O’connor’s pulse to see if hes still alive. He knows that his job is to make the Jazz better right? Any sign of life would be acceptable. I mean, anything to know that they’re at least trying.
If nothing else, resigning Wesley would tell us that at least KOC hasn't died in his executive chair with sunglasses on

I’m going to have to end up watching more of the Thunder than the Jazz.

We lost out on Beasley for nothing??
A 2nd rounder and a swap of 1st rounders….
Man I swear!! You gotta snag these guys up when you have a TE and they are available….
"One of the teams asked me a running back question," McCluster said. "They said when you have the ball, do you focus on the guy who's in front of you or the next guy.
"I told them 99% of the time, I'm going to make that first guy miss. Then, I'm onto the next."

i might not own a korver jersey
but i’m sad to see him go.
fwiw, he said a few weeks ago that his charity endeavors in utah would continue regardless of where he ends up. which just makes the jazz letting him go seem even worse.
Hayward can fill Korver's ten minutes per game.
But there’s a report that the jazz are talking with Haslem. Haslem is not the answer. And yes, MG, why weren’t we in on the Beasley trade?
KOC is like the Tortoise in the Tortoise and the Hare. He keeps coming up with stuff, but it’s never what or when we expect. I hope he has some more tricks up his sleeve. So far, we are worse off than last year for sure.
I bet Deron is golfing like mad this summer. And I bet he’s hitting long every shot.
I'll make it coach.
Haslem
is a better back-up PF than anyone the Jazz have right now. I love Evans, but chances are he’s not going to get many minutes

disappointing
3 years/ $15 million seems like an offer the Jazz could have afforded to match. Hayward has way more upside than Korver, so I’m glad he’ll be getting minutes, but depth is starting to be a serious concern now.
Depth
has always been an issue hasn’t it?
Millsap. Yeah, obviously.
AK, fine… if healthy
Korver… he’s there, or he’s not.
Ronnie P… no.

I am a little bit surprised
That The Jazz didn’t go after Beasley for that 2nd rounder.
Korver was gone from the jump, but I actually think that Hayward will fill those minutes well. He is not as good of a shooter, but he does everything else better than Korver (except sell pink Jerseys)
I think that Haslem will be an ok addition, but we will basically be in the same place we were last year even if Millsap brings it this year like Boozer did.
I really can’t see the Jazz signing Brewer again.

I'm really disappointed. I wanted to bring Korver back and then offer the MLE to Redick. I was thinking like the Bulls.
I would have been happy with no other big moves and just playing small ball with a handful of 3 point shooters. Oh Well. That’s why I’m not the GM.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
That would've been fun to see

I bet
the Magic match. I’ve read that they’re offering Gortat to anybody with cap space. Jazz gotta jump on that.

If you were the GM
for the Jazz you would do nothing.
Come on KOC, do something. Let us know you at least care.
Why
Why have we not at least offered Matthews something? We should have thrown him a 4 yr $16 mill deal on July 1st. Who knows. That is probably the ballpark figure that Matthews thinks he is worth. Then if Portland/SA or whoever is interested in him wants to bid they have to offer more than that. And worse case scenario, we match whatever they offer. Why do we let other people decide how much he is worth? Don’t they have an idea? We played this stupid waiting ’til another team bids game with all our free agents (ie Mo Williams, Paul Millsap, CJ Miles, etc.) Last year the Paul Millsap game bit us in the wallet and you could argue it cost us Maynor and/or Brewer. Surely all the other teams learned and are going to front load whatever they offer Matthews.
The Jazz front office is driving me nuts. We aren’t the only team with trade exceptions and we aren’t the only team trying to use them.
Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do something before I lose all faith!
I can't help but just shake my head............
"Times have not become more violent. They have just become more televised."
FWIW
I just looked back at KOC’s first off-season with the Jazz (2000)… looking anymore is going to take time and probably drive me insane.
But that year, his first off-season move came on August 2nd, when he signed John Starks to replace a retired Jeff Hornacek. I don’t know if that trend continues or not, but if so… it could be quiet for a while longer

Does anyone know why we didn't extend Matthews during the season?
Were we prohibitted from doing so or something? I have to admit that I was a little hurt when he said Utah wouldn’t get a hometown discount. If they were any honor left in the association, then he would recognize that he owes basically everything to the jazz. Not that I begrudge him his money, he’s earned it, but he was a korver injury and a CJ injury away from being cut. It’s disappointing. When it really is just a business for the players, that’s when the whole thing breaks down and I stop caring. See lebacle.

With the CBA stuff happening next year plus
the HUGE hometown discount the Jazz got out of him last year ($457k), even though they found him, it doesn’t surprise me. The players are trying to grab as much money as they can with a lockout looming next year. Also, Matthews isn’t saying it’s a business, but with the output he put on the floor last year he knew he would get paid. I just hope SA and Portland don’t give him such a ridiculous offer sheet that would use all of our MLE.

Meh
we saw this coming. I love Kyle’s game. I loved him when he was on the 76ers and almost rioted when we traded for him. Oddly, I’m not really sad to see him go. He was a great guy and brought something we needed but he was really only good at one thing.
I’m excited. The more we lose players the more exciting next year will be with new faces and a new experience. We are in a transition and sure there is nostalgia attached to these guys but….I’m ready to see a new Jazz and have different expectations for them.
I feel it’s a great time to be a Jazz fan. Still, the Jazz need to resign Matthews.

MonSTARZ forever!
In a weird way I'm more sad to see Korver go than Boozer
This team had lost to the Lakers for 3 straight seasons in the playoffs, so bringing everyone back and staying in the luxery tax wasn’t the answere. The cheeper Millsap takes over for Boozer at the 4. The cheeper Hayward takes over for Korver. Now we get to see what they do with their exceptions and extra cap room. I’m OK taking a step back this season as long as it’s followed by a step forward in 2011/12.
Don't trust this guy. He lies.
Options for our trade exceptions
Rip Hamilton, Tyson Chandler, Omeka Okafor, Marcin Gortat, Elton Brand, Gilbert Arenas, Hedo Turkoglu,
Any of these guys tickle your fancy?
I like Chandler, Gortat, Okafor

Go for Gortat
With the Bulls having signed Redick it looks like the Magic are going to try and keep Redick. NOW would be a perfect opportunity to go in and use a trade exception on Gortat while the Magic are vulnerable.
But give it another day or two and you will read how some other team used their trade exception to land Gortat, all the while things are quiet in the Jazz homefront.
I will be incredibly disappointed with KOC if we don't sign one or more of the following.
Redick, Gortat, Morrow, or Haslem.
The time to sit back and watch is gone Kevin. Get your wheels churning!!

Redick and Morrow
Are currently working deals with the Bulls and Nets. So nothing will happen there. It seems like I heard something with Haslem but I can’t remember what it was nor find anything.
Jazz need to do something, tho. I will be ok with reading a headline that says the Jazz offered a trade exception on Gortat and got shut down. I just want to hear they are trying.
Brad Miller
with Redick and Morrow scratched off your list, I want to add Brad Miller. I want to hear something about the Jazz having interest in this guy. I know some have mixed feelings on him, but I think he would fit perfectly on a Sloan team.
More KK
Best thing about Kyle Korver is his ability to finish close games at the free throw line. Korver at line = Victory formation.
Agree
Every team needs at least 1 guy that is automatic from the line at the end of games. Hopefully Hayward can do that. He shot like 94% from the line at summer league. I know it’s summer league but it’s encouraging.
by scrantonicity33 on Jul 10, 2010 11:56 AM MDT up reply actions
He shot 82% from the line in college.
There isn’t much difference in shooting free throws when going from level to level. Same distance and no defense to shoot against. I wouldn’t count on Hayward being anything above 85%.
KK only shot 80% last year
One of the best on our team, but that wasn’t saying much. Hayward at 82% would be better than anyone last year.
