Ryan Thompson to go to Utah's Training Camp
Hey guys, Aykis16 here, one of the editors over at Sactown Royalty.
Just letting you guys know some news, but one of the players for the Kings summer league team, Ryan Thompson (Jason's younger brother), had narrowed his choices of training camps to either the Kings or Jazz, and according to this twitter post from Ryan, it looks like he's decided on the Jazz.
Ryan, a 6'6 guard from Rider University, played in both the Orlando Summer League for Boston and the Vegas Summer League for Sacramento.
Summer League Statistics:
In 4 games with Boston, he averaged 19.3 MPG, 9.3 PPG, .450 FG%, .500 3P%, 2.5 RPG, .8 APG, 1.0 TO, 2.0 PF.
In 5 games with Sacramento, he averaged 15.8 MPG, 5.0 PPG, .333 FG%, (didn't hit a 3 and only attempted 1), 1.8 RPG, 1.0 APG, .6 TO, 1.8 PF.
From what I noticed, Ryan looked more comfortable driving to the rim and also with a nice little mid-range jumper. He doesn't have consistent range from beyond the arc yet but his form's not bad. He's also relatively mistake free and has the makings of a possibly good defender.
If Ryan makes the Jazz team, it will mark the 2nd straight year an undrafted player that played for the Kings Summer League wound up on the Jazz Roster. That last player was of course Wes Matthews.

Thanks for the info!
Is the kid a PG or SG? PG, he could have a chance of pressing Gaines for a roster spot. If he can run an offense and hit freethrows I would think he might have a slim chance. If he plays SG he could give us depth at SG which would make Hayward and CJ’s roles at SG/SF less of an issue.

Stockton to Malone- The perfect combination!!

He's more of a SG
But he’s relatively mistake free when handling the ball. I don’t see him playing much point though.

I think
he’d have more luck making it on the roster as a SG so that’s good for him.

He'll be going up against guys like Othyus Jeffers
That gives him a decent shot. I’ll love him if he’s Matthews 2.0
I got the crap beat out of me in Provo one time
If he's Matthews 2.0
then KOC deserves to go to the HOF, lol.

Here we go
Summary: He has a solid frame, long arms, average or below average athletically, displays great versatility, is a team player, has corrected shooting mechanics since graduating college, good body control, nice touch, lateral quickness is below average but smarts, strength, and size help him on the defensive end.
6’6, 214 lbs, 22 years old, 6’ 8.5 wingspan, 8’ 5.5" standing reach.

Yea
I think he has a skillset that could help him compete for a roster spot. He’d be cheap too.

P.I.T.
I saw this kid play in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. He is a true leader on the court. Although his Basketball IQ out weighs his athleticism, he would definitely fit well with the style of basketball that Sloan demands. Overall I think he would be a inexpensive quality asset this season. Besides we all love rooting for the underdog right.?.?

just throw him in the bag, maybe we get 4 upgrades this year
if he can match matthews game than we had one hell of an offseason.

I do remember that he was in the group of lesser knowns that the Jazz invited to a predraft camp.
They must have liked him then if they invited him to camp.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
Get him on the team
have him blow up play like Mathews. And have him sign an obscene contract the following year (Portland).
i like him
he seems much better at shooting off the dribble than matthews was
