The Downbeat - 6 September 2010 - #309 - The Laborious Edition
You may have been following CJ Miles this summer on twitter and noticed he was on vacation in Puerto Rico. Except he wasn't down there for vacation, he was down with friend Ray Rice of the Ravens helping teach basketball and football. In addition to paying for the whole trip himself, he also went out of the way to help the kids. From the Deseret News,
That wasn't the only surprise Miles had in store. He took down every kid's name and shoe size and worked through his Nike representative to buy basketball sneakers for his new friends. Miles' agent said he bought about 70 pairs of shoes for the kids.
Hmmm, maybe there's something to this whole signing quality character guys thing.
What are you going to do while stuck at work today why everyone else is out? Why, you can watch game 5 of the 1997 playoffs against the Lakers. Check out the playlist on the right for all of the segments. Check out the guy's channel for more Jazz games. (h/t Mike Prada)
In honor of Team USA playing Angola today, here are some highlights from the Dream Team's game against them (with some Malone at the end),

We don't work on labor day. Isn't it ironic, don't ya think?
1- It’s always nice to remember that there are good people out there who want to do good things with their station and money.
2- I am at work, but I can’t watch that game. At least we always have our sweep and dominance of the Lake Show in the late 90’s to fall back onto.
8- It’s weird but I find myself rooting against the Americans sometimes. It isn’t that I don’t like our team, but I just like underdogs so much. And I don’t like Derrick Rose, Lamar Odom, or Tyson Chandler. I love Kevin Durant though. Good guy though.
4- I’d rather have one of just the logo, but that is cool. I wish every Jazz fan knew what that meant or at least believed the idea behind it.
5- I am sure everyone is thinking Deron and Al Jefferson. Maybe AK, maybe Millsap. But the fans aren’t going to vote any of our guys in and the league wouldn’t let more than 2 of our guys in unless we were like 40-10 at the AS break.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
Yeah
I’ll be getting one up with just the logo as well. I like the AKWSUA for game-night shirts.

Maybe I could just do a ___WSUA, then you can write in your player of the night.

AKWSUA
I still wish I knew what it meant. I don’t remember reading what it meant in the list of acronyms.
what ever happened to the . . .

I'd buy both
One with my “name” and the AKWSUA.
And I’d wear them with gusto.
I got the crap beat out of me in Provo one time
