My fear
In Derrick Favors we have finally found our athletic big man. A nice 6'10", seems to have all the tools to be a defensive monster.
Yet, I can't help but notice how good other bigs from this draft are doing- especially in comparison to other big guys drafted this season.
Greg Monroe and Demarcus Cousins have been tearing it up. Patrick Patterson and Ed Davis and been spotting nice numbers.
Has Favors not had enough playing time? Is he much more raw than these other players were?
Does he have bust written all over him?
Help ease my fears...I see Cousins and Monroe doing so well, Patterson and Davis doing fairly well...and I fear for Favors future.
Thoughts?

Yeah, he's 19 and he hasn't had the time to develope.
The other guys you mentioned are on terrible teams so they have been given a ton more playing time. Favors will come around in the next year or two.
When
he came out of college and into the draft he billed as a project big man. That should be the expectations given to him. the reason he went so high is that he has the potential to be great and was the best potential big man in the draft without being a head case. If cousins wasn’t so crazy he probably would have been number one pick.
I've seen Cousins play up close. Don't over-rate him.
He is lazy, and doesn’t seem to be paying attention to the game unless he is getting the ball. Not a team player.
Patterson and Davis have had the same up/down seasons as Favors, did not put up big numbers, and have a lower ceiling.
Monroe might become the real deal, but his number per minute aren’t any better than Favors, and he was much more polished coming out.
Don’t panic. In five years you’ll see…. Favors will be head-and-shoulders above this field.
i'm not afraid he's a bust
i’m afraid the jazz won’t develop him properly. he said when he arrived in SLC that he wanted to work with a big man coach. i’m afraid the jazz will just make do with the coaches they have, and he’ll end up not being all he can be.
I was not yet born when Malone was drafted. How did the Jazz back then go about developing him?
Is that a model that could be repeated with Favors?
Millsap developed under the Jazz…there’s hope….Humphries never did…there’s concern.
I’m just pinning so much hope for the Jazz’s future on Derrick Favors, that I"m afraid to death he’ll bust.
A lot of hope is on Favors....
I was young when Malone was drafted so my memories might be bad… but they were a bad team, they traded away Dantley to give Malone minutes, and from there… he just wanted it.
So part of the question is: will the Jazz trade away Big Al to give Favors minutes?
like frank said, a lot of it was just karl's work ethic
he did a lot of it on his own, especially in conditioning and fitness. from what i understand, millsap’s development has largely happened because of his own work in the off-season as well. if favors wants to work with a big man coach, the jazz need to get him one.
Or else Favors just needs to spend a lot of time emulating Millsap and others who have gotten stronger and improved their games.
I don’t know who Hayward has been watching, but he is much stronger and more polished than he was at first.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
D-Will destroyed his confidence
Well, when D-Will isn’t throwing balls at the heads of rookie’s they tend to develop faster.
Can you imagine the setback that would cause the newest guy on the team?
Hayward is finally coming out from the shadow of D-Will’s disrespect. Now if he can get passed his reluctance to shoot, he’ll be a good player.
I mentioned in one of my earlier posts I had watched Hayward in shooting drills a few times with the Jazz and that he was one of the best shooters on the team.
Now it looks like he might finish the season as either the top NBA rookie 3pt shooter or number 2. It will likely be close.
Lockedonsports David Locke
Ex Butler star Gordon Hayward is #1 NBA rookie in 3pt shooting (45.1%) min 40 attempts. Gary Neal best min 100 atts (41.6%)
Gordon Hayward is 12 of 21 (57%) from three in March #2 in the NBA (S Novak is 15/24)
Only Steve Novak (21-35) and Brian Cardinal (31-62) are better than ex Butler star from three since Dec 1st (min 20 makes)
Since Dec1st Hayward is shooting 22 of 44 from 3 pt range 50%
Nice job, Gordon. Now tell all the #9 skeptics where to stick it!
Brian Smith Tribune
Jazz’s Hayward said he’s started telling himself to take open shots. No longer deferring as much and passing up clear looks.
Jazz’s Hayward has always struggled with passing up open shots. Was pass first in high school and it’s carried to pros. Trying to change.
Jazz’s Hayward: “You’re hurting the team if you’re not taking that shot.”
Honestly, Hayward's shot reminds me a lot of Ray Allen.
The way he sets his feet and goes up so quickly, with a tight release. I think Hayward is going to grow into being a player very similar to what Allen is now… 15pt game scorer/ team player/ deadly outside shooter etc. I really like the kid’s game.
I don't think it had anything to do with
D-will destroying confidence. Hayward was reluctent to shoot way before D-will yelled at him. He didn’t even shoot all that much in Training camp and preseason games if I remember right. We all kept hoping he’d gain confidence early in the season and it just took almost a whole season to get there.

The Jazz
didn’t hire anymore coaches I heard because they didn’t know how the lockout was going to affect things. They’ll address that kinda stuff later.
