Lotto Watch 2011

After the loss to the Kings last night, and The Downbeat this morning, I think we should be tracking the lotto standings for our daily dose of Jazz optimism.

The 1 and 2 seeds are probably pretty set, at best the Cavs and T-Wolves may swap spots, but the 3-6 seeds are all up for grabs.  To break this down a little easier we'll look at each team's current standing and remaining schedule, then wrap it all up by taking a measured look at where that Jazz pick will probably end up.

Games Behind Nets:  3

Games Remaining:  6

Games against Playoff teams:  4

Home/Away Games:  3/3

The Wizards have been ravaged by injury (though, not enough to lose to the Jazz) and have a rough schedule w/ two games against the Celtics who are in a race with the Bulls for the 1 seed in the East.  They also have one game against the Pacers, who are fighting off the Bobcats for the last playoff spot. Don't expect any bunnies for this team, with their only win coming @ Cleveland.

Projected final record:  21-61

Projected Lotto seed:  3

No easy ride for the Raps, either.  They have games against NY, Philly, and Miami, who are all trying to maintain/ move up the playoff standings.  They have a key game (for our purposes) against NJ, at home on the 10th, that could have a big impact on the lotto standings.

Not good news for Jazz fans.  Despite a brilliantly devised plan by the Jazz to help shore up the Kings' schedule with a W last night, the outlook is not good, as the Kings have 3 games against some of the top teams in the league (SA, LA, OKC), and one against a Memphis team that is tied w/ NO for the 7 seed.  Oh, and the other two games are @ Houston and GS.  The Kings have been playing well lately, but not enough to see any light at the end of the season; I only see one win in there.

Well, we wouldn't be Jazz fans if we expected things to come together in our favor.  The Nets have, by far, the easiest schedule out of all the teams we're watching.  They have games against NY and Chicago, who have incentive to play out the rest of the season at full strength and one against Charlotte, but the playoffs could be set by the time that game comes around.  Still, I'm going to say 1-5, with the only win coming at home, vs. Minnesota.

The Breakdown:

From the looks of things, the Jazz aren't going to get much help to move up to that 5 seed and get those extra 2.5 percentage points.  Anything could happen, but as far as what the Nets can control, the biggest factor will be DWill's injury status.  He played 41 minutes last night against the Heat, and all indicators are that the Nets' stance is, "Why shut him down now, when there's only 6 games left?", which I can't help but feeling is in large part to do with a spiteful desire to do the Jazz no favors (pun?).
