Wishes from November, December, and January

What a year it's been. Lately, I've been thinking about the things I said  at the beginning of the season on the gamethreads and elsewhere. Things I wished would happen. Here are a few of them, along with whether they happened or not, and the results:

Wish:

"Man, DWill doesn't seem to be playing with much heart. I'd like to see more of Earl Watson."

Result:

Wish granted. DWill gets traded, we get Devin Harris and Derrick Favors, Harris gets injured, and Watson gets the starting job. He's been averaging 4.1 PPG, 3.4 APG, and is shooting 41% from the field. While Watson is a very respectable backup, he's just not starter material. Although I still maintain that the trade was the right move, I miss the Ninja. That's an understatement.

Wish: I wish the Jazz would play Jeremy Evans more.

Result: Wish not completely granted. That's ok, though, because we have Derrick Favors. The coaching staff has been doing the right thing with Jeremy.  Evans has played in 44 games this year, and has averaged 67.5% from the field, owing to his dunking skills. He hasn't gotten a ton of minutes this season, with his average peaking at 15.6 MPG in March. He averages 1.9 rebounds per game and 3.7 PPG. He works hard, jumps high, and is usually good for a quick two points off the bench.

Wish:

I wish Coach Sloan would stay for at least five more years.

Result:

To the surprise of the NBA, Sloan resigned in January. I miss that man.

Wish:

I'd like to see much, much more of Gordon Hayward. Raja Bell isn't doing so hot.

Result:

Since Raja went down, OG has averaged 9.85 PPG, 2.1 APG, shot 56% from 3 point land, and 48% from the field overall. Hayward has played much, much more solid defense than Raja, which would translate to wins if more people were healthy. I like this kid's future with the team, and believe he'll be ready to be a more regular starter next year.

Wish:

I wish Coach Sloan would tighten up his rotations a bit. I mean, we've lost two games in a row now.

Result:

I miss those days. Since Coach Sloan left, Coach Ty has been forced to tighten up the rotation, simply because he doesn't have very many players to work with. Since some key players have been off the floor, the Jazz are mired in a nasty losing streak, and not the first one, either.

Wish:

Hopefully we get higher than a 6 seed this year. I'm sick of losing to the Lakers.

Result: Yeah...
