A major letdown for Real Madrid as the Spanish powerhouse fell ugly on the semifinal of the first EuroLeague’s Final Four it reached since 1996 to Maccabi Electra, 82-63, today, May the 6th.
Utah Jazz’s Ante Tomic started and logged 28 minutes of playing time. Tomic scored 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 from the foul line, grabbed six rebounds, dished two assists, recorded a steal, turned the ball over once and blocked a shot.
Tomic played really well. With him on the bench, Real Madrid struggled offensively. With him on the floor, they were able to run their post-based offense effectively. Tomic fought Sofoklis Schortsanitis hard for position, which still didn’t keep Sofo from scoring 16, but it was relieving to see some effort from him on defense.
With him and Felipe Reyes dominating the interior, combining for 32 points and 20 rebounds, Real was in it midway through the third-quarter but eventually faded away due to the lack of outside shooting (7-23 from beyond the arc).
Real Madrid plays for the third place against Montepaschi Siena next Sunday, May the 8th.
