What can we expect?

Okay, I have been a Jazz fan for my entire life, and in all my time rooting for this team, I can't remember a time that I have ever been as frustrated with this team than I have been through the first four games of this season.

Don't get me wrong, there have been individual games, but I have never had such an outlook and general feel of the team that I have this season. I also don't want to post another one of the probably endless WTF posts that are starting to pop up. What I want to discuss here is what we can reasonably expect, and what are/should be the consequences if we don't meet those expectations?

For one, I don't expect to "compete" as KOC so eloquently put it; and nor do I want to if it means I have to watch Jefferson and Bell every single night.

But on to the question posed. So far, Corbin has a record of 9-23 (29% Winning PCT) and if anything, we look worse now than we did at the end of last season. This is horrible, and one of the main reasons that I am pissed off at Jazz brass for just handing Corbin the keys to the car if you will and not even placing an interim tag on him. So far, he has done nothing to develop an offense of his own, and our defense is porous and soft, which to me, is unacceptable. The biggest question I have for Corbin is "When can we expect you to develop an offense?" and the consequence of not having an answer to that question should be this question: "When can we expect you to be fired?" I realize the second question is harsh, but I have seen nothing out of him that suggests we will win with him as our coach.

The next expectation I have is for KOC. "When can we expect to compete?" Because right now, we sure as hell aren't "competing". We are getting blown out. I understand wanting to give the fans something to root for, but so far, we suck. There is no denying it. So, "When can we expect to compete?" I've tried to get behind KOC for years, since he signed Boozer and Okur for the '04-'05 Season, but I can't. So, if we aren't competing in two or three years, I think the natural consequence should be "When will you resign?" That consequence is as equally harsh as the first, but it must be asked in my opinion.

And finally, when can we expect to develop our young players? Next year? Two? Never? I expect it to start by the end of February, cause by then we should be firmly out of the "competing" tier of the NBA and into the "horrendous". Cause the consequence of not developing our young talent will be ending up like the Minnesota Timberwolves being managed by David Kahn. A center that can play, but no future. And that consequence, to me, is the worst of all.

Actually...

It’s not my first time saying it, but I’d argue that Minnesota’s future is looking brighter than ours. And that’s scary. You hit on a point that not many people mention, which is why wasn’t Corbin just made the interim head coach until the end of last season? We and the Timberwolves are both young teams that are loaded with talent, but the one thing then sets them apart to me is they have Rick Adelman running the show, who IMO is one of the top three coaches in the NBA. Do you think he really would have rather gone to Minnesota than here if he had the chance? I know it takes time, but if we don’t start to look like a team by then end of the year then it’s probably time to move on.

Minny does have a good team

Corbin was made the FT coach when he was hired though. No interim tag.

I thought hiring Corbin was hasty

I thought it would have been more appropriate to give him interim tag and not lock into somebody outside the hiring season.

I thought Hornacek could have come in with immediate player respect in spite of no coaching experience. Larry Bird did that in indy, compensating for his lack of x’s and o’s by hiring seasoned assistants. Horny could have done the same. I don’t think he would have come in as a former player-turned head coach and made an ass of himself the way Mark Jackson is.

I'll make it coach.

Just to clarify a little, a team can compete on the floor every night, and still not actually compete for a championship. That’s all I ask for from this team. All I want to see is hard work every game and I could care less about the outcome.
