Jazz winning, having fun.

Most Jazz fans remember the 2003-2004 season. The team was coming out of the Stockton to Malone era with a lot of question marks. Frank Hughes (whatever happened to that clown?), a Sonics beat writer, predicted that there would be a new "This is the Place" monument in town. This one would be right by the Delta Center and would say "This is The Place.......where the worst team in the history of professional basketball played its games."

That team was fun. They didn't win as much as we were used to, but they competed. They played as a team, and we were proud of them. To me, it is still an absolute travesty that Sloan did not win Coach of the Year that season. (The fact that he never won it, and Phil has only won it once shows that award has no credibility, but thats a DT,DD)

As I scanned my twitter timeline tonight, it hit me.

This Jazz team is fun.

As fans, we are having fun with this team. They are fun to watch.

After the drama that reared its ugly head last year, this is just what the doctor ordered for the loyal Jazz fan.

We have young guys stepping up to the plate. Its fun to imagine what Favors, Kanter, Hayward, and Burks will someday be. They are learning the game and having moments where we just go nuts for them.

The veterans are doing things the right way. I have always been proud of the fact that the Jazz are playing the game the right way. We don't have yahoos like Vince Carter or Allen Iverson who love to freelance for forty minutes a night, we have guys who want to win and play the right way.

On a given night, we don't always know who, but someone is stepping up and carrying us to victory. And again, its fun to follow these guys again.

Jazz fans are the best in the NBA, and I don't think thats even debatable. Without a doubt the most passionate. But I can feel it being taken to a whole new level. We want so bad for these guys to be successful. There is a buzz around this team that I haven't felt in a long time.

Am I predicting a title? No, certainly not. A lot of work to do. But I feel that this team is going in the right direction. We don't have any players who clearly want to leave, or are out for themselves. We have guys who want to be here and play hard. And that makes it fun.

Sometimes, thats all you need. Just a little fun.

I agree completely.

That’s all we ask for as fans, is to watch a team compete, improve, and have good chemistry. Then it is fun to watch.

I do, however, feel the trade winds starting to blow.

Nothing against this group of players, who I just agreed are a good collective bunch with no problems or slackers. But here is why I feel a trade is coming, and soon:

KOC is smart. Everyone thought the Jazz would shop one of their bigs at the beginning of the season, but he has basically stated he prefers to be patient about these things, and wait for the right time. That time may be now. The perfect storm is brewing…

- Kanter is ready to play now. Something no one knew before the season started.

- Atlanta needs a big badly… with Horford going down, their season is in jeopardy.

- Golden State needs a post scorer badly, they went after various centers aggressively pre-season, had to settle (and overpay) for Kwame Brown, who is now out for the season. Biedrins is their only center on the roster and he is hobbling. Plus, the Jazz hold their draft pick, and that fact is crippling them for trades. Because the pick might be any of 2012-2015, by league rules, they can’t offer any first round pick in trades during those years.

- Washington needs a post player badly. They are an atrocious half-court team (and team in general). They have started the season sooo badly, the whole situation is turning very, very, bad… they need a change in a big way, quickly.

- Houston also has started the season very poorly. Houston still needs a center.

So… I think teams will be contacting the Jazz. And once KOC can play teams off against each other a bit….

Now is the time to maximize the situation.

Very interesting, but I dont see the Jazz making any major moves.

I suspect they will shop their trade exception pretty aggressively and look for a solid outside shooter. Jefferson and Milsap are staying here for now. If we could find a way to get Lowry, Curry, or Teagua, that would be great. Oh, and the Rockets signed Dalmebert, they dont need a center.

Was that Teagua supposed to be Teague?

If so, he’s got his moments, but I don’t really think he’s an upgrade.

I am in no way affiliated with the blog of the same name.
