Harris for Calderon?
http://blogs.canada.com/2012/01/18/is-devin-harris-an-option-for-toronto/
I saw rumor floating around. I've always been a fan of Jose Calderon and think he'd be a good fit with the Jazz. Their contracts are a wash and Harris has been inconsistent at best this year. If you're KOC and the Raptors make this offer, do you pull the trigger? The only downside to me is that Calderon is about a year and a half older, but his game should age pretty well. He probably is also just filling a gap until we find our PG of the future, but that's no difference from Harris.

Aha, another disagreement.
I’d probably take this deal if the team weren’t playing so well right now. Calderon is a little expensive, but he’s an assist generator. Defense is a little suspect, but so is Harris’s.
I really like Calderon’s game overall. Needs to work on his midrange and 3pt shooting though.

At this point I think the only trades should be done for a long-term answer
Would Calderon really the long-term solution for starting Jazz starting PG? I don’t see it. In which case, I wouldn’t do the trade.

Their salaries are actually identical this year. Calderon makes an extra $2M next year. I agree that he’s probably not the long term answer, but neither is Harris and Calderon can run the offense better than Harris. This probably isn’t a trade that I’d make if we were just mailing it in this year, but considering how well we’ve been playing so far, I might try to make a run this year and next year and see what we could do before Calderon and Jefferson’s contracts expire… Who knows. Tough call overall.
I think at this point trades actually hurt team chemistry and will take wins away.
Unless you are trading for a substantial upgrade. Which Calderon is not. He might be a slight upgrade, but under a new system with new teammates, he might actually perform worse than Harris. I am all for seeing how this team does until close to the trade deadline. If we are still competing for a real playoff spot (as not dropped to 7th or 8th), then we should push for the playoffs with the players we have. But if we have taken a step back and are on the bubble of making the playoffs at all, we should probably blow it up a little and make trades for the future.
This
It’s about the chemistry.
Right now the team’s doing surprisingly well because of its chemistry, and Devin’s a part of that. The only reason I’d look at disrupting it is if the Jazz can find a major piece of its long-term future.

Agree! I like Cadarade's logic and I'm not a Harris fan but I'd still have to say NO
Harris clearly isn’t a long term solution but right now it’s working. He know’s our personnel. I’m still not sure how we fill our long term PG slot but for now our chemistry is good.

I think Devin is good for team chemistry.
Yes, their contracts are a wash, but I believe that their basketball skills are also essentially a wash. Chemistry > slight upgrade at PG. Ask me again at the trade deadline.

Yep, that's pretty much what I was trying to say, but you said it better.

Like Dwest, I can't think of a trade that is closer to a wash production-wise.
If the Jazz don’t trade for their future point guard, I think the Jazz need to do what they are doing, which is giving more minutes to Earl Watson and putting the ball in the hands of Hayward and other playmakers and playing Devin off ball more often.
The more you try to erase me, the more that I appear.
I disagree that the production is a wash.
I think Calderon is a much better distributor and playmaker (not scorer) than Devin. He seems to have better court vision and is more accurate at putting the ball in good spots for shooters.
But really, I like Watson better than Harris and would prefer for him to start and to pick up a cheaper, serviceable backup. Harris is getting better though and seems to be dropping some of his bad habits, so it’s really hard to say how the minutes should shake out.

Right
I’m with you on Calderon’s assessment. Don’t really want to admit it but he’s a much better PG. And I think he’s scoring and passing numbers are very appropriate for a solid PG. (12 ppg, 9 apg)
yes
how is this trade a wash?? He scores with more efficiency, and he averages 8.7 assists to 1.7 TO!! Are you kidding? 95 from the line, and despite his 33 percent from downtown, he can spread the court more so than harris. Give me Jose

I think Harris read this post before the game.
Unfortunately, I think Calderon read it too.
