Worth taking a look?

The rockets have announced that they will not exercise their option on thabeet, Jordan hill, Terrence Williams and Johnny Flynn in an attempt to clear cap space for this summer. I think Johnny Flynn would be worth looking at for the jazz. He is young and has a good skill set for the jazz system. It would be nice to let him devolp along side Favors, Hayward, Kanter, and Burks. What does everyone else think? Is he worth going after in free agency or maybe a trade?

I hope you are joking about Flynn...

if not, I suggest that you visit Canis Hoopus & inquire about him

Any one of those four players might still blossom in the right system--or not.

All of them are living proof that the NBA draft can be a crapshoot. Off the top of my head, I believe they were picks #2 (Thabeet), #5 (Flynn), #8 (Hill) and #11 (Williams). They all seemed to have talent and potential going into the draft, but have not yet converted that apparent talent and potential into success in the NBA.

That being said, Flynn might give the Jazz about the same contribution towards winning games as the Jazz’s current third string point guard, Jamal Tinsley. So, maybe it wouldn’t be too risky for the Jazz to take a chance on Flynn, if the Jazz didn’t have any better options, and could sign him to a short-term, minimum contract.

jonny flynn is a worse ronnie price.

Just because he didn’t pan out with the TWolves doesn’t mean he couldn’t work with the Jazz we are pretty different systems. He wasn’t exactly in a good situation with the wolves think about trades and coaching. Rick Adelmen has them looking like a new team

you are high

Flynn is not a worsened version of Ronnie price— Price is stooping damn near the lowest. Flynn has not had the opportunity to truly prove himself with the correct surroundings. Sure there are better options out there, but for what the Jazz could probably snag him for, we most likely will not find any other options. I think its worth looking into.

BTW: Waxmaster is retarded.

Exactly what I'm trying to get across

There are much obviously better young pg s in the league. We just have a realistic opportunity with Flynn and see if he could pan out with the young core we are starting to build. If we have been like in the past we rebuild rather quickly and high draft picks don’t come along to often.

yeah

I agree adam, its almost like were sitting in the same room.

Besides, his point is valid

Part of an informed opinion IS to see what his former fan-base thought. It’s just a part, and how big a part is certainly debatable, but it’s still a part.

Excuse me...

Yeah, I am a retard because I am critical of Flynn’s game & recommended asking people who have watched him play during the last couple of years about his game.

Really, you can disregard my opinion and suggestion if you like, but the name calling is uncalled for.

Not sure why you think the Jazz will be the "correct surroundings" when Houston and Minnesota haven't been.

Jonny Flynn can’t even get on the court with Houston. DNP after DNP.

He’s had chances to succeed, but not beating out Dragic for even 5 mins/gm is a very bad sign to me.

Flynn's worth a shot at the 1 yr min

He’s a capable shooter with super speed. He might just need the right culture and organization.

Not sure what leads you to believe he is a capable shooter.

Super streaky is more of how I’d classify him from what I’ve seen of him and/or his box scores.

I'd rather try to rehabilitate Tinsley than develop Flynn

I think Williams would be worth a look. He’s still young and I remember being interested in him in the draft.

Never mind

I’m thinking of Jordan Hamilton.

by Caderade on Jan 28, 2012 5:38 PM MST up reply actions

Jordan Flynn just doesn't have the basketball head to be salvageable

Thabeet I wouldn’t give up all hope for, at least not defensively. He might be able to make a Kwame-ish resurgence.

At least get his name right, man... seriously...

Why are you so rude and condescending to people?

It’s constant and grinding. I don’t understand the need for it. Cut it out.

And for the record, the post was about Thabeet, Jordan Hill and Johnny Fynn. I probably just had the Jordan and Flynn names floating in my head and typed out something in a few quick seconds.

Give it up man. Just cut it out and give it up.

by Stockton2Malone on Jan 31, 2012 10:41 PM MST up reply actions

Examples?

If you find them in a manner that is constant and grinding, I will certainly be amenable to toning it down. I actually think I’m one of the less personally offensive posters. But of course, I’m biased. Unless you’re talking about grammar mistakes. But I’m mostly just messing around with that stuff.

I apologize if you feel that I was being condescending. I have a hard time with people passing judgment about a player and getting the player’s name wrong. Kinda like Harpring & Boler when they calls Alec Burks Eric or Alex. Hard to take anything they say after that seriously.

BTW, if anyone else wants to weigh in on me being a bully, I would welcome examples

so I can see what you’re talking about and try to change, because I’m generally not trying to be that way.

I won’t be offended by the criticism, I promise.

to rank interest in those players I'd go:

Williams: clashed with management in new jersey, didn’t perform badly in Houston. Could fill josh Howard’s role.

Thabeet: you can’t teach size, and we could always use a Fesenkoish big off the bench.

Hill: probably higher ceiling than Evans, but I wouldn’t want him to take his minutes. Lower priority for me than Thabeet because of that.

Flynn: does he have upside? Yeah. I don’t like what I’ve heard from him in interviews, and I can’t see him being a good influence on a young teams culture the same way Tinsley seems to be.

by Kfunk on Jan 29, 2012 8:14 PM MST via iPhone app reply actions

I guess I wouldn't mind Thabeet

as a fourth big, if we end up moving Jefferson for a wing or a PG. If we hang on to Jefferson, Millsap, Favors, and Kanter, I don’t really see the need for him.

by Caderade on Jan 30, 2012 7:14 AM MST up reply actions

Totally agree with you on Flynn

although I never thought I’d hear someone refer to Jamal Tinsley as a good influence.
