I want to see Burks

Missed first half yesterday. I’m desperately hoping Burks gets another bout of playing time.

Me too, missed the entire game

But it sounds like he played pretty good. At this point I feel Ty has to start giving him consistent minutes, especially when Bell had 1 rebound the entire game…

Such a surprise

Looks to be a stud. Makes my insides cry for Burks every time I see a 20+ point game roll across the bottom line for Brooks.

Read Grantland rookie rankings

www.Grantland.com. Good numbers analysis on Iring, shows he isn’tefficient yet, but he does show promise.

Kyrie Irvings line tonight so far

20 pts on 8/10 shooting, 6 assists, 3 reb, 2 blocks, and 0 turnovers. In just 20 minutes of play.

Cleveland is a bunch of fools

Treating their rookie like he deserves playing time. Sticking with him even after struggling with his shot a couple gams.

I hate that Raja is starting too

But, we’re 5 games in, finally got to see Alec get some burn outside of garbage time last night, and Raja has like the 8th most minutes on the time, and they are declining as of late. Plus, he honestly looks as if he works hard.

It’s a long season, totally frustrating to see him starting still, but I think signs are he won’t be in a little while.

by 3 in the Key on Jan 3, 2012 7:01 PM MST up reply actions

I hope that benching him

Gives him a wake up call to actually try to produce any kind of numbers as long as they’re not fouls lol.

by KaBar6 on Jan 3, 2012 7:06 PM MST via iPhone app up reply actions

I think he could actually be productive still

But against 2nd units. This makes sense. I think high school coaches could figure this out.

by 3 in the Key on Jan 3, 2012 7:13 PM MST up reply actions

My hopes:

Aggressive, playmaking Hayward. Favors and Kanter doing their thing together in the post. Burks playing 10 minutes. Evans getting some PT. Millsap playing well with the kids.

That’s really it. I have limited interest in anything else.

hard to explain why

maybe he’s trying to do more than just score? maybe he just isn’t ever going to be as good as we all hoped.

Unless he develops this season, I wouldn’t have a problem with KOC not renewing his contract. I’d rather have AK brought back.

by G Note on Jan 3, 2012 8:08 PM MST up reply actions

As much as I hate to say it

I just don’t think CJ is mentally tough enough to get the most out of his talent. On nights where his head is right he plays out of this world, but those nights aren’t nearly as consistent as they need to be. And at this point I doubt he’ll ever find that consistency.

by 3 in the Key on Jan 3, 2012 8:31 PM MST reply actions

The crazy part is

They were in the game just last quarter. It’s not like it would be hard to reproduce the exact same rotation. Corbin gets a pass and all, but color me pessimistic. He has all the worst attributes from Sloan, without a team who will inexplicably play over-the-top for him

by 3 in the Key on Jan 3, 2012 8:34 PM MST up reply actions

Yep

And the worst part about the ‘starters’ are that Gordon is a part of them – they ignore him and RUIN his games. He can’t develop any sort of rhythm, and he gets benched for CJ because everyone else makes him look bad.

by 3 in the Key on Jan 3, 2012 9:20 PM MST up reply actions

His blocks are directly attributed to his height and nothing more

He gives up plenty more due to bad rotations, lack of box out, being out of position, not hedging screens or helping long enough to allow his teammates to recover, not closing out, not contesting shots, losing track of his man or simply not paying attention.

He is the worst defensive big I have seen in years. He is far worse than Boozer, because he is far slower than Boozer. And trust me, I hate to admit that.

Great win. Kinda ugly, but ugly wins work.

Yes it is.

Only downside was the turnovers but overall, it was a good game.

Millsap's such a good dude

How could you ever want to trade such a hard working, nice player?

Millsap 13 & 12 on 6/7 shooting. Very very impressive.

The Jazz

with a quality win, yes, I am a Bucks honk, but I think Milwaukee can be a solid team in the East, so Utah accomplished a great thing with this win. Millsap works tirelessly and Al finally wanted to be a monster, nice win Jazz!

1/11th through the season and we're at .500

Is 1.000 Home winning percentage and 0.000 road enough to make the playoffs come the end of the season?

Hope those injuries aren't severe.

Way too many guys went down tonight. Even though it opens up some playing time for younger guys, I think the team needs Harris and Howard to be healthy to steal games on the road.

Stats of the night

Raja played 13 minutes. We can all calm down, his minutes are diminishing.

Secondly: The Jazz gave up a total of zero points on their 24 turnovers.

Insane. Happy to get a win. Hayw

PC's are garbage, I will finish that sentence

Hayward quitely went 5-7 for 12 points in 25 minutes. Didn’t seem like he shot more than twice or played more than 15. Looking at the box score I’m much less depressed about the way we won. Just was an ugly, frantic game at times.

by 3 in the Key on Jan 3, 2012 9:31 PM MST up reply actions

But gave the Bucks so much more possessions

I think the Bucks had 25 more shots than us (I guess that’s with their offensive rebounds combined). I’m not going to say the Bucks shot themselves in the foot with their terrible shooting though. The Jazz had size advantage and took away their inside game, forcing the Bucks to shoot from outside.

Nope

30 more shots. Seriously, 30 more shots.

Didnt even realize Burks played 28mins!!

Injuries helped

But he could have just as easily played Raja. Now to get him to give Miles’ minutes away.

Maybe to Evans, maybe to the bigger guys for a larger lineup at times. I don’t know. But Miles is terrible. 3-11 and 5 fouls. I can’t take it anymore. He needs to sit for good, and go let someone overpay him this summer.

by 3 in the Key on Jan 3, 2012 9:42 PM MST up reply actions

Seriously?

You are calling Miles out? He had a rough shooting night, but so did Burks. He had a lot of Fouls, but so Did Hayward. He brought the kind of energy plays we have been getting from Howard. I don’t know of any other fan base that expects the same out of one of their players that gets paid what CJ does, that the Jazz fans do.

by Kfunk on Jan 3, 2012 9:50 PM MST up reply actions

It's not that he plays bad, it's that he plays dumb

When CJ is on the court, bad decisions are made. This season he has managed to give away 2-3 easy points at the end of a quarter on FOUR separate occasions.

I love his talent, but I don’t love his Bball IQ

by G Note on Jan 3, 2012 10:53 PM MST up reply actions

$3.7 mil isn't chump change.

Chauncey’s only at 3.5. Battier’s at 3. Haslem is 3.8. Defino’s 3.5. Morrow is 4. Sefolosha 3.3.

And I agree w/ 3 in the key that it’s not about his shooting. His shooting can come and go and it’s fine as long as he’s being smart and playing good defense. When he’s taking step back 3s instead of trying to draw contact at the end of the shot clock, and fouling at the end of quarters with tenths of seconds left on the clock, it’s aggravating.

Nothing wrong with 'calling a player out'

when we’ve watched him stunt our team for 7 years by never improving in any facet of the game, other than occasional defensive effort now. I love CJ, he seems like a fun, good dude. But I’ve just seen enough. It’s been far too long. Burks is already far better, and already shows the ability to make smart/selfless decisions on offense, despite his far better ability (than CJ) to get to the bucket at will. I see no reason to keep CJ on the floor while Evans or Burks is benched. We have a better chance to win AND it develops our future. CJ is not in our future.

by 3 in the Key on Jan 4, 2012 9:37 AM MST up reply actions

I'd take issue with "never improving"

I think CJ has improved considerably since he came into the league. Much, much better at defense. Can play well within the offense. Shows promise when he doesn’t settle for jumpers.

He doesn’t always do it though, and that’s the tough part.

I think CJ’s going to be playing a lot more SF now if Howard is out at all, but maybe I’m wrong. If that’s the case though, he wouldn’t be taking Burks’s minutes at all. I definitely think CJ & Burks can co-exist. I think CJ, Burks, Hayward, and Evans should all rotate in at the 2 wing spots, with Evans getting fewer but consistent minutes.

Burks did well to fill in and take on the role of attacking the basket

Usually Howard gets to the line. Burks didn’t fear taking it in. He even looked good with his nice passes, something Howard lacks.
