Utah Jazz Sophomore Bigman Derrick Favors to replace San Antonio Spurs Injured Big Tiago Splitter in BBVA Rising Stars Challenge
Some of us felt like we got the shortest straw when it came to the announcements for the various All-Star Weekend festivities; however things appear to be going in our direction. Due to injury to San Antonio Spurs bigman Tiago Splitter, our very own Soph Derrick Favors will be making the trip to Orlando with Gordon Hayward.
Jeremy Evans news is not official yet, but you know you'll hear about it first or second here. So keep checking back for more information.
Go Jazz Go!

I love Favors.
But I kind of felt this spot should have gone to Kanter. I am probably biased in my irrational love of him though. It would have been fun to see him go after EVERY rebound in this game, where there will be a plethora of missed shots. He would get 15 minutes, 42 rebounds, and 22 points, all of which came on putbacks.
i think kanter deserved a spot over trist thomp
but because tiago is a soph, they needed another soph; hence, favors
Jazz fan who lives in Detroit. Stats guy. Photoshop novice. Likes to make the pass to the guy who gets the assist. Questions? Comments? Concerns? Get at me:

Well that totally makes more sense.
I didn’t know that with the new format they were still following replace a soph/rookie with a player of the same type.
Kanter got Jobbed twice already. They're not going to pick him.
First he lost out for the rookie team to Tristan Thompson, despite having one of the best PER’s of the rookies.
Second he lost out for the rookie team when the NBA decided it had to add Linsanity and needed another player to balance the rosters at 10 a piece. They gave that spot to Noris Cole.
Hope, Favors kills it in Orlando!
The Cole selection made 0 sense.
I was like, he had what 1 good game 2 months ago? The Miami Heat factor.
I have to think
the spot would have gone to Nikola Pekovic if Pek hadn’t turned his ankle last night. Still, I’m happy for Favors.
I'm going to brag. I drive the Nikola Pekovic fanwagon.
Pek probably deserves it.
He has been playing really well lately. Ironically after getting consistent starter minutes. . .
Finally.
The Darko Experiment went on too long. But it probably wouldn’t have turned out well with Rambis in charge, and Pek has certainly benefited from Rubio’s presence.

I really like watching him play. He is one of my favorite non Jazz players in the league.
And at least Favors and Kanter aren’t getting enough minutes behind guys that are at least considered for all-star games, even if they aren’t selected. If they were rotting behind Darko I would probably move from irrational to slightly unhinged.
Minny is becoming one of my favorite teams to watch this year, and it isn’t just Rubio. There is a lot of really good young talent on that team. Should be some pretty epic northwest division games coming in the not too distant future.
I'm really looking forward
to tomorrow night’s tonight’s game. The Jazz kicked the Wolves’ asses last time by being physical and pesky. And it seemed like Milsap couldn’t miss a shot. Not sure if Pek is playing yet, but either way it will be fun.

I hope Pek plays.
And I hope Favors dunks on him lol. The game should be good though. The Jazz are pretty desperate for a win, so I am hoping they take some of their frustration (my frustration?) out on Minnesota. But if we lost by more than 10 I wouldn’t be overly surprised. Love will play better than the last game and the Jazz can be fairly bipolar, so I honestly don’t know what to expect. But it should be fun either way.
In a recent interview with Locke...
Kanter said something like, that he isn’t yet used to playing against guys as strong as he is & Pek was the one guy that he named as an example.
