Our very own Jeremy Evans won the 2012 Dunk Contest. I am very relieved that he had a very solid showing -- despite my initial fears after he was passed up by the NBA League Office. Evans beat Indiana's Paul George, Houston's Chase Budinger, and Minnesota's Derrick Williams. This year there were not too many signature dunks and the field was a little weak. That said, you don't have to be the best dunker of all time to win the dunk contest; you just have to be the best dunker that night. And Jeremy Evans was without any doubts, the best dunker tonight.
Somehow 29% of the vote went to him . . . which is a surprise because he's a Utah Jazz player, and no one knows him. I don't know if I am happy with the overall performance, I felt like it was a 6/10 -- and expected an 8/10 based on his amazing hangtime in games; but he won, and we are all very proud of him. Great job Jeremy!
- "Eye level Dunk": Self Alley-Oop, 180 reverse jam
- "Two Ball Jam" (Assist(s) by Gordon Hayward): the dunk of the night, he took off from the circle which gets overlooked here
- "Mailman Tribute": not a fan of the dunks that take a lot of non-basketball to set up, but the more I watch it the more I appreciate this dunk
I had to re-do this post. I'm happy that Jeremy got a chance to compete, and I'm happy we won. I am very proud of him and I hope he knows that a LOT of Jazz fans voted a lot of times tonight. Over 4 million votes. #WeAreUtahJazz
Evans did what Darryl Griffith, Blue Edwards, Jamie Watson, David Benoit, and DeShawn Stevenson could not do: bring home a dunk contest win.
Bravo Elevator Evans!
