All-Star 2012 Rising Stars Challenge Teams Announced: Gordon Hayward makes the cut!
Congrats to G-Time / OG Time / The Precious for being recognized by the NBA heads, and chosen to be part of the 9 man roster for the Sophomore team. He'll be going alone though, as none of the other Jazz youth brigade made the cut. Represent us well, Gordon!

PER isn't the be-all-end-all Stat, but I listed it here just to get a quick look at how these guys are playing. What does it say when Kanter can't make it on the Rookie team, who is starved for bigs? What does it say about us that we have four lotto guys on our current roster, and we somehow are incapable of either a) playing them, or b) finding lotto picks worth playing?

Didn't they change the format
And all players will be in a pool and they will be picked by Shaq and Barkley?

you are right
This year, a new format is being implemented to a game that has historically featured NBA rookies facing off against sophomores. For the first time, rookies and sophomores will be mixed together on teams. TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal will serve as the general managers of the two opposing teams – TEAM CHUCK and TEAM SHAQ – each with nine man rosters, drafted from the aforementioned pool. TNT’s Kenny Smith will serve as the honorary Commissioner and Ernie Johnson will host the live BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Draft on Thursday, Feb. 16, on NBA TV at 7 p.m. ET.

Nevermind, it looks like you put all the Jazz players on the list
If only because you wanted to confuse me.

That Thompson made it over Kanter is kind of a travesty.
Especially considering there are no Rookie Centers.

i wonder how much of this is a popularity contest
Utah is unpopular therefore no on cares about our players
"no one cares about our players"
maybe even our front office and coaches? ha ha. what other conclusion do you get from four DNP-CD’s in a row for Alec Burks — all in games where a small, fast guard could have helped on defense just a little bit . . .

ha ha
I have no idea why Alec Burks isn’t playing especially when getting killed by quick little guards. I don’t get it. I’d love to ask Ty though.
burks did just tweet
“Politics as usual”
maybe referring to the snub maybe the dnps maybe nothing at all.
I dont quite understand why the rookie team has nothing even close to a center, and Kanter didn't make it....

And his PER is better than all but three of the rookie that made it...

Marshon Brooks has a broken toe,
If he is still out by Allstar weekend, I think Kanter should get the nod

Having 1 out of 4 lotto picks
playing means that we shouldn’t get too excited for next year’s draft pick/s. Maybe Burks should though, it will be his new bench buddy.
I would like to see the candidates by MPG
Selection is probably highly correlated with burn. I would guess that Kanter and Burks have significantly lower MPG than the rookies who made the cut.
I can understand
Favors not getting in, since Monroe and Cousins are both beasting this year, and I can understand Burks, since for some unknown reason, he just isn’t getting burn. But Kanter not making the cut is ridiculous. Rooks have no Center representative, and he is turning into a real solid contributor off the bench. But NBA has got to push who is popular, and apparently 6’11" white Turkish dudes don’t fit the bill.
G-Time for rookie soph MVP!
Utah>*
In the popularity contest, I don't think g-time will see the ball much.
I'll make it coach.

I think he might if he gets paired up with Irving or Rubio
both cats like to pass, and after they see G Time make some plays, they might be more willing to pass him the ball than to a chucker. Of course, if the first 5 players are the starters, I don’t think that he’ll be starting.
Utah>*
Irving and Rubio are rookies
Wouldnt Hayward be playing with the Sophs
"I hate it! It looks like a stickup at 7-Eleven. Five guys standing there with their hands in the air."
Norm Sloan
"We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."
Weldon Drew
Teams are pick by Charles and shaq
They pick from this pool. So he’ll be in the game, but who he’s playing with remains unknown.

This is a better format than they have done before
This will make it interesting to see who they take first…
Who would be SLC Dunkers first pick?
And who gets picked LAST?

I would take Irving first
and Fields last
Utah>*
Irving over Rubio
I would take Rubio over Irving, but he wouldnt be my first pick.
I would take Greg Monroe first, and Tristan Thompson would be last

I take Blake Griffin first
Because he’s by far the best offensive big man there (not like there is any D on All Star weekend).
After that there are multiple good PG’s. Irving, Wall, Rubio. Whoever.
I’d also try get Paul George because he’s awesome, and the Precious because he is…precious.
Really cool idea for the game. Feel sorry for the guy picked last (better not be our Hayward!) I suspect Brandon Knight might fall to last pick.
Possibly the second most southern Jazz fan in the world!

No Jimmer
Not sure if he deserves it or not, I don’t keep up with him, but that’s interesting.

Hayward is so overrated.
Favors should be on this team.
Overrated by who?
Name 17 other sophs that you would take ahead of him from that draft class

Haven't looked at any numbers
But Hayward has not had an overall stellar year. I think lucky to have gotten him in.
Thompson over Kanter is lame. For all of them let’s hope it adds some fuel to the competitive fires. Better that than anything.
I can’t help but think Burks is not playing because of specific reasons we aren’t aware. Like he is continually being coached on things that he is just not following up on when he does get burn.

i just wanted to say
I just finished watching some Hayward highlights from last night’s game, and he was very impresive, looked very agressive and active on both ends.
I really love the kid

Team Chuck
I sure hope Chuck takes OG not Shaq. Even if it is just an exhibition game I think Charles could pass on some good stuff to Hayward. Shaq will probably just tell his team to go play because they will never be as good as him and then they’ll all tell jokes and eat donuts.
