Trading for a wing

The way I see it in order for the Utah Jazz to improve we need to improve at the point guard and wing positions in order to be a championship contender. We also need to manage our cap flexibility so that when it is time to sign extensions with our young players we can. Finally we need to find more time for Burkes, Kanter and Favors. I have some ideas on point guard but I wanted to talk about the wing position to begin with.

What we have:

I think that CJ Miles will not be resigned. I also think that Raja Bell will be traded, or bought out, or amnestied, or moth balled, or given a pink backpack, or something but he won’t be playing. So the only question is whether we resign Josh Howard, I hope we don’t.

I hope that the Jazz decide to set up a 3 player rotation at wing with Hayward, Burkes, and somebody else (see below). Then they keep Carroll and Evans as insurance.

Here are several trades that I have read about that may work for us. Let me know what you think.

Trade # 1

Trade Al Jefferson to Houston for Kevin Martin & Samuel Dalembert (suggested here by Peter J Novak)

In this scenario our main players would be:

1 – Harris/Burkes

2/3 – Hayward/Burkes/Martin

4/5 – Millsap/Favors/Kanter

Other players: Evans, Carroll, Tinsley or Watson, Dalembert, 2nd Round Pick (wing)

Trade #2

Trade Al Jefferson to Atlanta for Joe Johnson (as proposed here)

1 – Harris/Burkes

2/3 – Hayward/Burkes/Johnson

4/5 – Millsap/Favors/Kanter

Other players: Evans, Carroll, Tinsley or Watson, 2nd Round Pick (wing or big man), sign a 4th big man or wing

Trade #3

Trade Al Jefferson to Philadelphia for Andre Iguodala (as proposed everywhere)

1 – Harris/Burkes

2/3 – Hayward/Burkes/Iggy

4/5 – Millsap/Favors/Kanter

Other players: Evans, Carroll, Tinsley or Watson, 2nd Round Pick (wing or big man), sign a 4th big man or wing

Trade #4

Paul Millsap, Raja Bell & GSW Pick to Portland for Nicolas Batum & 2nd Round Pick (as proposed by me)

Primary Players:

1 – Harris/Burkes

2/3 – Hayward/Burkes/Batum

4/5 – Kanter/Favors/Jefferson

Other players: Evans, Carroll, Tinsley or Watson, 2 each 2nd Round Picks (wing, 4th big)

Trade #5

Danny Granger, Darren Collison for Paul Millsap and Earl Watson (suggested here by Peter J Novak)

Primary Players:

1 – Harris/Collison/Burkes

2/3 – Hayward/Burkes/Granger

4/5 – Kanter/Favors/Jefferson

Other players: Evans, Carroll, 2nd Round Pick (wing or big man), sign a 4th big man or wing

Trade #6

Work out a trade with the Pistons, Hornets, or Portland for the 9th, 10th, or 11th pick and pick a wing.

Which trade would you prefer, or who would you trade for to shore up our wings?
