There's been some recent buzz about Kirilenko (he's apparently making an NBA return -- read more here: http://weareutahjazz.com/lockedonjazz/2012/07/01/insider-andrei-kirilenko-returning-to-the-nba/)
I think the Jazz have a good shot at getting him. Small forward/3pt shooting/perimeter defense are all things we would LOVE to have. Kirilenko gives us all three. Only concerns are health, age, and price. He's a had a year off, and as Locke points out, if we aren't able to do a sign and trade, that increases are chances of signing him.
Assuming we do, what's his role on the team?
A few options:
- Backup 3 to Hayward
- Starting 3 with Hayward at the 2
- Trade Millsap AND Jefferson, use AK as a backup 4
Signing AK with give us pretty crazy depth (assuming no other moves are made):
Mo / Harris / Earl / Tinsley
Hayward / Burks / Murphy
AK / DeMarre
Favors / Sap
Al / Kanter
Also the chance Utah signs someone like Danny Green or Korver (if he's available) as a backup sharpshooter. In that case, I'd like to see our wing depth to be something like this:
Burks / Sharpshooter
Hayward / AK / DeMarre (I'd rather DeMarre lose playing time than Burks..)
Love the depth, but I'd love to see the Jazz package some players for elite talent or future lottery picks. I have a feeling in my gut that big moves are in the works...
Thoughts?
