Okay, it's cold outside and there is nothing to do in SLC right? Well actually there are a lot of things you could do but we are talking Jazz here since we can't watch them on TV for a few days. I listened to Locke's Jazz GM podcast. I'm not sure they completely swayed me back onto the Big Al bandwagon, however, I'm getting more and more convinced that the win now and develop later philosophy is the approach the Jazz are likely to take. Clearly, the Jazz have the opportunity to make the playoffs with their upcoming schedule despite Mo's injury. They could even get a 6th seed even though I doubt they would get past any of the Western Conferences top four teams in the playoffs. That would likely mean a 1st round exit with the Jazz winning one, maybe two games. Is this what Jazz fans consider a successful season? Will that mean more tickets sold next year? Are we really competing for a championship?
I've posted before about the conflicting values that the Jazz have within the organization. Winning and developing. Winning culture vs high draft picks. Free agency vs the draft when it comes to building a small market team. We are heading towards free agency with large cap space in case anyone hasn't been paying attention. Even the Jazz marketing dept. is doing it. You see the young guys on the billboards around town, you just don't see them as much when you show up to watch them at games or on TV. Where are the fans in all of this?? It seems to me that attendance is down from last year and the team to this point isn't much better this year despite the short term additions/added shooting. If you were the GM what would you do?? No response should be deemed too crazy because we really aren't any closer to winning a championship this year than last year.
I obviously don't pay the bills but I'd blow this thing up. Jazz yard sale going on here! Milsap and Jefferson both would be gone for any young asset or future draft pick even if it meant taking on a bad contract for an extra year. I mean really who are we going to get in free agency anyway? Booze? Memo? we tried that all ready. Foye should garner a late first rounder. Marvin.....well now that Sac town is heading North, let's just make that deal.......Fredette anyone? I'm not a big fan but it's better than EARL. I'd play out the season with the young guns at least that way you'd have a better idea when free agency came around what you have and don't have at this point. Mo? he's not the best point guard around but at least he's fast. We need someone to push the young guys. I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone else has to say as it looks like another boring trade deadline.
