Jose Calderon could still be on the Jazz

I'll preface this by saying that I'm a huge Calderon to Utah advocate. Even though I live in Seattle I've come on this board throughout the year to promote the idea.

The word out of Toronto is that Rudy Gay is in and Jose Calderon is on his way out. This is my opportunity to get Jose in Salt Lake City. I put together this three team deal and I think it really works for all teams involved.

The key to this deal: YOU GET CALDERON AND KEEP JEFFERSON AND MILLSAP.

Here's the deal:

Utah Receives:
Jose Calderon

Toronto Receives:
Rudy Gay
Earl Watson
Hamed Haddadi

Memphis Receives:
Linas Kleiza
Randy Foye
Ed Davis
Raja Bell

This trade lands Jose Calderon in Utah simply by being a facilitator. Memphis does not want Jose Calderon. He simply doesn't have a spot on the roster because of Mike Conley, Jr. and Tony Wroten. It hurts to give up Randy Foye's three pointers but at the same time, Mo Williams will be back soon. And when Mo Williams is back, Utah will have one of the most complete starting fives in the league.

Calderon distributing to Al Jefferson, Derrick Favors, and Enes Kanter down low will be a thing of beauty. While Mo Williams, Gordon Hayward, and Paul Millsap can more then hold their own on the outside.

Utah can't keep starting Jamal Tinsley (eww) at point guard. He's awful.

The best part about this deal is that it's a glimpse into the future. Calderon only has this year left on his deal, it's not a long term commitment. We've never seen how good this Utah team can be with a functional point guard. Let Calderon settle in and get comfortable. It gives Utah an inside track to resign him in the off-season for a modest deal and he'll be an above average bridge to the future.
