Hey, everybody! To steal from the days when sports talk radio actually took calls, "Long time reader, first time poster."
I work as an usher at EnergySolutions Arena. I've wanted to write about some of what goes on before, during, and after games, as well as some of our other events we have going on at the arena. For instance, did you know that in addition to the 7 Jazz home games in November, there are 9 other nights the Arena has events? So, not only will your friendly ushers and/or security team members be cheering on our Jazz, we'll also be seeing ice skaters skate (5 nights), listening to Michael Buble', Selena Gomez, and Trans Siberian Orchestra, plus keeping the peace for a BYU/Utah State basketball game.
Yes, it's a fun job, but remember that it's only a part time job, which means that most of us also have full time jobs. Jazz games are mandatory, plus we are supposed to work about 50% of other events, so many of us will spend about a third to half of our November evenings at the Arena.
I'd like to make this a normal column. Leave any questions you have in the comments, and I'll try to answer them next week.
