Referee Recap 11/13/13 #NOPatUTA

Over the past couple of seasons you may have seen some of my Tweets with information and stats for each officiating crew assigned to that night's Jazz game. I have been asked multiple times over the years "what's your fascination with the referees?"

There are so many advanced stats and different ways for teams, fans and the media to evaulate each game, yet I have never seen an in depth look as to how officials may have an effect on the outcome of each game. Specifically in basketball where so many calls/non-calls at the end of games can swing the result so dramatically.

All of this led to me tracking the results for every Jazz game the official works and the free throws attempted for each team. After discussions with an NBA team (non-Jazz) executive I am going to be adding a few different items this year to the recaps that I post on SLC Dunk. The new information will include how many foul calls each official made, from which position they were in (Lead, Trail or Center), and which team the call was against.

While I won't be posting the full recaps after each game (espcially during the 2nd half of the season as my work schedule drastically changes), I will be continuing my tweets every game day with the information for that night's crew.

Without further ado, here is the information from tonight's game:

Date: November 6th, 2013
Opponent: New Orleans Pelicans
Venue: EnergySolutions Arena (Salt Lake City, UT)
Officials: Derrick Stafford, Tony Brown, Mark Lindsay
Final Score: 111-105 (W)

Notes on Tonight's Crew:

#1- Tonight will mark the second time this season we have had an officiating crew contain both Derrick Stafford and Mark Lindsay. Both worked the Jazz 104-88 defeat in Brooklyn earlier this month.

#2- Derrick Stafford and Tony Brown both worked together in the Jazz Game 2 loss of the 2012 Playoffs (yes, we were once a playoff team) to the Spurs.

#7 Derrick Stafford:
Total Fouls Called: 18
Lead/Center/Trail: 5/9/4
Against Home/Away: 6/12

#6 Tony Brown:
Total Fouls Called: 18
Lead/Center/Trail: 11/3/4
Against Home/Away: 6/12

#29 Mark Lindsay:
Total Fouls Called: 13
Lead/Center/Trail: 7/6/0
Against Home/Away: 7/6

Notes on Tonight's Game:

-The Jazz won! #VICTORY
