I don't know about you but in the heat of the moment, when I see Alec Burks take a wide open 3, my heart bubbles with hope, but when its off. . . again. . . fury.
One of the growing pains
we are going have to to go through I hope we go through this season is watching Alec Burks take three pointers, long twos and mid range jumpers, and miss them frustratingly. I think a lot of the 3s are going to be open and it is possible that a lot of the mid range jumpers will be ill advised. I think some nights he will brick them and other nights he will get hot and drain them, but on his off nights I am going to try not to get mad because I know Burks can finish at the rim and if he diversifies his offensive game to become a threat as a shooter and a threat as a drive and dish guy, (which I don't think is unreasonable considering he is getting time as an offensive facilitator and practicing with Stockton and he is already pretty good at the drive part) then that would be a great asset to the Jazz offense. I also think that no matter how much you practice your shot in the gym, somehow it just feels different to take a shot in an actual game environment.
Since we are not trying to contend for a championship this season I say to Burks, "go ahead and chuck them up there" because a few years down the line when we are contending for the ship I want the opponent to know Burks has the confidence to shoot and make that 3/long 2/mid range jumper so he (or she, you never know) has to bite when Burks fakes it and drives.
As an aside I would love to see Burks in the running for 6th Man of the Year and I don't think it is out of the question if he gets significant minutes, has the ball in his hands a lot against opponents bench players, and plays at the end of games.
What do you think?
