I really like what I'm seeing from our Core 4 so far this year. All averaging close or over 15 MPG and showing signs of greatness along with tons of mistakes. The games have been very enjoyable.
What I find frustrating is that we aren't seeing them on the floor enough together. Maybe 15 to 20 out of 96 minutes? I'm too lazy to look it up. Surely if we are a developing a championship caliber team it's essential for them to learn to work together, develop a chemistry, etc that will result in great things a year or two down the road once one or two other pieces are added.
At this point I don't care who the 5th is whether JL3, Tins, Jefferson, Clark or maybe lots of Burke in a few weeks. All have pros and cons but isn't the crucial thing to see how well the Core 4 performs together and whether they really can be a championship caliber combo? The best part of last year was seeing them on the court with Tins for the 4 or 5 minutes at the start of Quarters 2 and 4 because you could see the promise.
That's why I want to see the Core 4 start each game and play together the first 8 to 10 minutes of Quarters 1 and 3. And then play together the last 4 to 5 minutes of the 2nd and 4th quarters to learn how to finish games. Get a rhythm, develop some go to plays, learn to use each players' talents to the maximum, play defense as a unit, etc. That's 24 to 30 minutes a game of working together and developing chemistry.
How we fill the 5th spot and what we do the for subs the other 18 to 24 minutes a game I really don't care but give me MORE CORE FOUR! Isn't that what this season is really all about?
