No matter how we feel about it, the deadline passed and no moves were made. Rather than focus on what could have been; it’s time to focus on what is and move forward. The focus for the rest of the year should be getting our young guys as many minutes as we can while pushing towards the playoffs; because really, what other options do we have?
Earlier this season, the justification for a lot of Coach Corbin’s actions was that he was featuring guys for trades. Now that this is no longer the case, there is every reason to embrace playing our young guys as much as possible.
The first thing that Corbin should do is shake up the starting lineup. It sucks, it’s sucked most of the season and there is no longer an excuse to allow it to continue to suck. What I would like to see is a change like this: PG: Burks SG: Foye SF: DMC PF: Favors C: Jefferson. This line up plays better defense, has more energy and doesn’t allow other teams to slack off our PG and pack the paint on Jefferson. This ultimately means we likely aren't playing from behind all the time or letting other teams get in to a good rhythm which is an improvement.
The second thing I do is forget about hockey subs. It is time for more active coaching with in-game adjustments, no set rotations at X minutes and allowing momentum to carry a unit as far as it is capable of doing so.
Third is to utilize our players, particularly our bench, in situations where they can thrive. With Millsap, Marv, Kanter and Hayward coming off the bench the Jazz could have one of the better benches in the league; featuring a ton of offense and good defense as well. This could give Marv a chance to show what he can do when we actually call plays for him. It could allow Millsap to be the primary weapon without having to worry about covering for lacking defense, it gives Hayward more experience as THE guy on the court and best of all, it leaves Watson sitting on the bench at all times.
What changes would you like to see now that we don't have to feature guys for trade purposes?
