On March 27 Utah Jazz signed Jerel McNeal from NBA Development league team Bakersfield Jam to a 10 day contract! There were talks he would be available for a game vs Phoenix but as I see in a box score it didn't happen. I guess the jersey was not sewed yet.
Have watched a lot of Jam games this year, this guy is a great defender and can score in bunches as well (his season high is 42 points). I would like to see him play against Damian Lillard on Friday (hahaa, wishfull thinking). Portland is beatable at home, so this road game win could be crucial to keep Jazz play-off race alive.
As a Bakersfield Jam fan I am very glad for him, and I think he is actually better than good amount of guards currently in the NBA, but too bad he is called-up by Utah Jazz (I hate to say so since Jazz happens to be my second favorite NBA team). Jerel probably will sit on a bench with DNP-CD the whole stint and be released after contract expires...I guess Jazz fans know how it goes (see Travis Leslie). In the meantime Bakersfield Jam are fighting to secure their No. 1 seed in D-league play-offs, so it would be much more difficult to do without McNeal.
On a positive note, at least Jerel will be able to shake hands with his Marquette Golden Eagles teammate Wesley Matthews.
